Do note the one is a compact prosumer while the other is a DSLR. I would always suggest to go with the DSLR instead due to speed, versatility and quality. Although the 450D doesn't have a flip-out LCD but do u really need it so much until it's critical? Else, 450D's your answer.

It greatly depends on a lot of factors
1. What you want the camera to do for you - High / better quality picture? You need a video function or not?
2. How much you willing to pay (a decent 450D will be about 1.5 to 1.7 times expensive then SX10 IS, depends what you get and where you buy)
3. Is convenience / weight a factor - SLR usually need change lens, slightly bulky then prosumer (SX 10)
4. How often you will use your camera
5. When will you use the camera - only for trips? Home / children? Hobby (always go out to take photos)

definitely 450d. 450d is one of the most user friendly dslr for newbies. in fact, it can act as a point n shoot too, though tat kind of defeats having a dslr. so its more value imo...

450d with the kit lens is enough for newbie like me?how do i know wat kind of lens will i need to get in future?and how to keep the lens in gd shape?

Why don't you try pentax, they have very good camera and sharp lens that are cheap, those lens are m42 mount and can be mounted on many other camera like canon camera with a adapter. Starters mostly don't know maintainance and other stuff like handling the camera well, so just get a cheaper DSLR and start wacking the shutter to learn. When you think you are better, sell it and get another pentax or canon is up to you. I am a canon user myself, and have some friends who started after me. They came to me for advice and I told them the same, some get cheap and good DSLR while others go for second hand. Some are still holding on to their first camera while others have upgraded. The gadget have good performance, but its always the person behind the camera that proves the gadget performance. Also remember that a dry cabinet or dry box is very important, get it before anything as once fungus attacks your camera or lens. You will feel pain, very painful.:bheart: Canon fans, stop pushing him to 450D................................................................. -_-"

 I hope u did read the title and his first post.
There is nothing against Pentax but TS is deciding between an sx10 and a 450D.

You need to consider a few things before deciding between the SX10IS and the 450D:

1) Wat is your budget?
2) What are you going to use the camera for?
3) Will you be willing to put in time and effort to learn to use the camera?

The SX10IS is a prosumer that is basically an all in one carry around digicam. It has a wide angle to telephoto lens (28mm to 560mm) and has a video function that can take relatively good videos. It can also take pretty good pics.

Advantage of the SX10IS is that it is light, compact, has a wide to tele zoom lens, has all the functions you will need in a digicam (except for HD video capability).

The 450D on the other hand is a DSLR which means if you want to get the same zoom capabilities, you will be looking at owning at least 2-3 different lenses. The cost is going to be very much more than the SX10IS even considering just the body and various lenses alone. It does not have a video function so if you want to take video clips while on vacation, you will have to bring a videocam which will add weight and additional costs for you at the very minimum. Weight wise, it is going to be a lot heavier than the SX10 IS especially if you are bringing multiple lenses on your trips.

At the end of the day, the decision is yours to make. I have a Canon S3IS, IXUS 800IS and a 40D. And to me, each of these cameras have their own strengths and weaknesses. :)

Yup me did read title, the Pentax is juz some external recommand as he still haven't gt his cam. But do give some review or more helpful comments of both camera, rather then just telling him getting 450D is the correct choice. Let him choose after the review. All the post I saw is 450 is good, get it man. No review or any reply to sx10. Doesn't seems very helpful.
Taken from one of the post, no offence "You'll be fine with the 450."

It really depends on your budget and needs...

If your budget is around 600-800 dollars, then forgo the SLR and get a prosumer.. It will serve you well if you can get your basics right :)

Getting a DSLR is investing in a system, which will set you back by around 2k if you need a comprehensive range of lens to cover the equivalent of the SX10IS

oh..i missed out something..450d doesnt have a video function..i think i will get sx10is..all in one!thanks for all the feedbacks..really appreciate it!
