I was fascinated and intrigue by the sheer precision that goes into the making of this lovely guitar. Prompted me to take a close up of the lovely craftmanship. I could almost imagine the lovely sound and music that would be churn out of it in the hands of masterly guitarist

would like to hear from fellow CSers if the composition, the colours of this closeup works for you. Does it bring across to you the massage that this is one fine and lovely piece of musical precision.

Hmm, I really don't like the lines here in this image. The fact that they bend sharply at very critical points in this image makes me feel rather unsettled. The harsh highlights also don't work for me as well.

guitar got dust...
wipe them away first before shooting. then will be nicer looking
compo wise...its not pleasing to my eyes(personal opinion)....can try a more bokeh shot e.g using f.1.8 focus on the strings, so that the rest wont distract the viewers?

what i think is that the image is just too flat, no contrast, non 3 dimensional feel, and every flaw is magnified when you shoot like that. like the small external flash reflection, the dust, the blown out light from the non soften flash, the chromatic aberration.

the composition is also lacking. the angle of approach, the sudden blur of only 1 distant screw, the cropped off bottom hinge, objects heavy on 1 side, so on and so forth.

I don't think you ever make an effort to take this photo, look like a quick snap from a point and shoot.

there are few parts are chrome surface, you didn't try to use some papers or cards show it is highly reflective, it just become some black metal parts. not to mention it is so dusty too.

and the orientation of this photos looks very weird, very uncomfortable to look at it.

From what i gather, the main flaws seems to be with the composition, I had done it in such a manner to add a bit of dynamics to it. Since this doesn't works, what suggestions in the angle of approach/composition would fair better in your opinion.

As for the harsh lighting , totally agree and point noted.Thanks. Looks like I will have to pay more attention on this.

For the dust wise, I guess I can't do much to it as this being a display guitar mounted on the wall of a restaurant.

Something like this may be more dynamic, without sacrificing on how pleasing it looks to the eye, as opposed to a jarring, in your face composition. Let me know if you want this example removed.

Thanks calebk. I think its indeed a more pleasing angle. Adds depth to the pic too.

Apart from the other criticisms of your photo (dusty, poor rendition of the chrome etc), I too find the orientation unsettling. I think it's because of the angle -- the guitar looks like it's falling towards you. Also shooting from the high-E string side makes me feel it's upside-down.

seems like you used a flash for this shot and it turned out quite harsh...
