Help : How to remove the black particle inside the lens ?

Hi

When I look into my Nikon 18-200 VR lens, I notice there is a black particle inside the lens. I tried to blow and even used the vacuum but I could not remove it. I did a closer inspection, it is at before the shutter gate. Please advice me on how to remove it. Thank you.

I have the same problem with 105mm thought it is a scratch, use all kind of method to remove/clean it. I sort of given up but went to NSC as a lost hope. they were able remove it for me. :heart: :thumbsup:

Add : they did it in 5 min.

Yes, it only takes a few minutes to remove it.

 

[fatigue]

Do not use blower or vacuum if you're not opening the lens. More dust might go in.

To remove that dust, use the zoom mechanism to "pump" air.
Set zoom to 200mm then quickly (with care) zoom out to around 50mm.
Since you mention that the dust is in front of the aperture blades, open the aperture to max (just like what you did to take the shot to show the dust) during the "pump". This will make it easier for the dust go out of that area.
And also point the front of the lens upward (mount facing downward). This will minimize the stress in the zoom mechanism since gravity will assist you to pull down the front part of the lens.

Try once or twice. If not successful, try to cover the mount with rear cap and repeat the same procedure. Having the rear cap on will redirect the air in a different direction. This might improve your luck.

This procedure might not actually remove the dust inside the lens.
The dust might go anywhere in the barrel but at least you remove it from the place that matters most, the optics.

Note: this procedure may not be applicable to other lens

Thank you very much for the detail help. The black particle seem embedded there. I cannot removed it according to what you told. I guess I will have to go to NSC tomorrow.
