Hi CSrs,

Looking to do some product photography where the subjects (large machinery) will be lit by Tungsten floodlights.

Is it advisable to gel flash heads with full CTO (6500K to 3200K) to prevent an colour cast, or is there an alternative DIY way to do this?

Where can I purchase the gel sheeting in Singapore?

Gelling the Tungsten floodlights is not really a viable option.

Thanks
Andy

think u can buy gels at cathay. i dunno how big are ur floodlights but u can consider gelling them since the sheets are quite big.

Problem is... can you guarantee that the gel sheets would match the output of the tungsten lighting....

Get the WhaleTail kit, they come with gels too.

Even with the whaletail gel sheets... can you guarantee that the output will match the tungsten lights correctly??

Each light has a different output and you can only hope to get close to it without a proper colour meter. Gelling the lights or flashes also needs a lot of work to get correct.

At least better than nothing. U won't know until u've tried. If not just use custom WB, else don't take at all.

flipfreak, zac08, Snoweagle, Many thanks for your input.

Gonna head down to CP tomorrow and just go for it. Experience to gain is more valuable than the cost for gel sheets.

Do you think using tungsten filaments which are all new will yield better results rather than say each light at different ages? I'm guessing these things change colour with age, or is the manufacturing tolerance quite broad?

Colour meter sounds interesting ... anywhere to rent?

Cheers guys.

Gels are in the CP shop selling the strobes and tripods.
However, there are full CTOs, half CTOs, 1/4 CTOs etc.

The sheets are pretty big
