can u believe this shot was taken on a canon sd200 aka ixus 30?

i don't really care how much post processing was done but to nail this shot is proof that a talented photographer can really work with the minimal gear. i am ashamed! :cry:

i have seen a lot of good pictures shot with cheap cameras

at iso 80/100, while not exactly equal, the difference is minimal at websize

Fret not, anyone with a Cam are called Photographer. As for Alan Roche? He's an ARTIST ... totally diff league but someone who inspired us to better our hobby. :)

There is, on CS, a very quiet photographer, who is a double (? but definitely single got) Royal Photographic Soc Fellowship award winner ... who uses nothing but a prosumer for his award-winning works on nature and landscapes.

Olympus, in the 80s, gave out four dinky pocket sized XA cameras to four professionals, and they shot a huge calender with those dinky little cameras, and no other/added special equipment to prove a point.

There have been numerous other instances where stunning (and serious) work have been done with P&S or Prosumers.

its the logistics of the shoot that may prove a problem for others. with reference to above picture,

a) need to look for ideal models
b) need to get a boat
c) need good lighting
d) need nice background
e) need talented PP`er
f) permits
and etc,

There are commercial photos that are inspired by paintings so not surprising. What i would like to know is how many shots of the different settings were taken to get the ideal depth of field.

for most of the PnS the only flaws compared to a dSLR would be its smaller sensor and for some, the lack of manual controls.
However if the scene is well set, has proper lighting and all, Mr Auto Mode should produce nothing to different from what a dslr could...
anw after starring at the photo for a while the PP seems to irk me, the way the island and parts of the water was just abrutly blurred..
