Full Straw CTS. I first heard this term from Neil Van Niekerk. He mentioned that it is a gel.

Here are some questions

1) So is CTS a kind of tungsten gel?

2) BTW, does anyone have a pic of what a tungsten gel looks like? And is it widely available?

Thanks :D

i think he did put a link on that article to bhphoto and what kind of gel the CTS is.

"STRAW RoscoStraw Daylight Conversion filters are a series of yellowish amber filters that lower color temperature as needed. Offered as a yellower version of the traditional CTO series and is calibrated to the same color correction and transmission properties."

It is suppose to be yellow than regular CTO gels.

Actually, one of the objectives is to decide what gel to buy so as to prevent any color cast. Someone mentioned tungsten gel here.

not sure if this is helpful but i ordered a gel kit from these guys - http://www.honlphoto.com/servlet/StoreFront. the pieces of gels are small-cuts to fit most speedlights and have velcro stuck to them.

changster, thanks for the link. But I wonder if that is used more for strobing

New Question
3) Are there different brands of tungsten gel (in camera terms: Nikon, Camera etc)? If yes, does brand matters? What I mean is does it give very different results?

Thanks.

actually its more like preventing 2 different color temp in your pic with flash being 1 color and whatever the other light source having another color.

there are different colors of gel. got different brand but dun really matter. what matter is the color u want. common ones are yellow and green.

OK. Thanks flipfreak! Just to check.

4) Is gel like a piece of paper? Do I need to cut out to fit the flash? Or are they ready made?

5) How do I attached gel to the flash head? Tape? Any recommendation?

its like those cellophane paper but slightly thicker. usually it comes in big pieces but i think its possible to get custom cut smaller ones online nowadays.

u can use tape or velcro or any way to attach it actually. if u will use it often, then velcro. otherwise use tape to fasten quite alright.
