Hi there all!!
sentinelazri here!
just joined, hope to be learning more from all of u!
1st, i am planning to go to the chingay parade for the first time with my dslr
wat kind of tips can u guys give me?

Be there early, get a good spot with no one infront of u :)
Bring your umbrella along :)
Bring your water bottle along :)
You will be waiting most of the time instead of clicking away :)
Eat something before you are there.

I personally will recommend a telephoto lens for such events.
A spare wide angle can be useful too :)

thx!

how bout a flash n tripod? needed?

Right. Flash. Yap you can equip with one if it is within reach. Day and Evening Time, you can put in a fill flash (SB900) on the subject light up the face in case of insufficient lighting or the background is too bright.

Tripod I will say you can forget it. It's too bulky and with sufficient light, it's not required. Besides you might be on the move too ? The whole chingay span quite a long way down. You might wanna move around, change your background and angles too. So Tripod weight will really bog you down.

With a flash and sufficient lighting, I will say tripod is unnecessary here :)

bring your ladder

the ladder is the most important tool of them all. :)

No joke! I was at Mardi Gras one of the years and people really used ladders!! Those who didn't bring ladders had to try to get hold of things like beer carton boxes (those hard plastic ones) or other stuff to stand on!:bsmilie:

just goes to show the lengths some would take to get the good shot!;)

You think Nightmare is joking eh? heheheh.......... I dun think so hor.... Ladder is a good tool, especially in those kind of atmosphere adn I can guarantee you, u will be above all in shooting positions...... as i would expect lots of dad carrying their kids on the shoulder.... so a ladder..... Good choice!!

very good for crowd control.

if you find yourself surrounded by too many people, just put the ladder on your back, and turn one full circle.

tada, got a lot of space now.

Well actually I am going to bring my ladder there tomorrow :)
If u don't get the front row, u can hardly take pictures of the performance infront of the stage.

I'm 2m tall. Do I need a ladder? :bsmilie:

I can rest my lens onto people's head as tripod!

If you think ur 2m is taller than a kid on top of a 1.8m father, then don't bring :)
Besides, your eyes are not 2m off the ground when you are :)
