Just sharing..
Went out to buy Nikon AF 50mm f/1.8D but didnt manage to buy it firstly most of the shops I went were all closed such as Cathay Photo, Camera Workshop etc. I went to John 3:16 but he got no stock. Check the price and he quoted me $180.
Went to Alan Photo but also closed. Few shops at Sim Lim do sell it but here is my experienced today.
They tried to sell the lens at $195 but since John quoted me $180 so I tried my luck to bargain from them and give me a better discount. They gave me $190 but this time I wasnt satisfied and straight away ask them for $180. They said $185 best price so I was about to buy it then the salesman took out his calculator and show me another price $197 saying price with GST. I look at him and then I walk off!
The next shop I asked quoted me the same price $195 but I asked them if the price is with GST or not and they said nope. So if GST then how much will it be..
Most shops at Sim Lim which have this lens or maybe selling other things use this tactics.
What crap..
Anyway, I will be returning to any familiar shops in Peninsula to get the lens tomorrow.
To those who know how much is the lens can let me know or anyone selling it off can also reply to me.
Anyway.. Happy New Year to all!
Cheers!

Its new year, no point making yrself mad over this type of small issue..just pay the $180 and use it...u will soon upgrade to f1.4 anyway..:bsmilie:

i was asking for $180 as what John have quoted me and even agreed to $185 at Sim Lim. Its just that they then suddenly add the GST trying to cheat me. Im not bother or mad at all cos I know he was also trying his luck to eat my money! :D dats why i never buy the lens!

Tot it was quite a well known fact that Sim Lim shops like to quote WITHOUT GST...

buy from BNS... not more than 150 can get... no gst, no tricks, try the lens happy then buy... so much better...

yeah.. some guy wants to sell his. Did PM him bout it but no reply yet. he selling 130. still waiting him to call me.

the GST trick is a old trick ...
a lot of my overseas and local friends almost got con by it.
the price is always nice when quoted by them, but always without GST.
got once, my dutch friend's GST came up to be almost 20%... i had to go CASE to get it refunded from the shop.

Nothing new, it's holiday buy at their price or choose to walk away.

not happy don't buy

it's a free market :) :) :)

if one doesn't know the pricing, then he deserves to be chopped. after all, sooner or later, he will be chopped somewhere. :)

in one of the shops i overheard the salesperson conversation with a foreigner that they can get their money back so called at the airport of the tax transfer thing..
is that true?
the salesperson kept saying dont worry cos you will get yr money!

are there any other shops in Peninsula or Funan which used this kind of GST tricks?
those who have experienced before can share.. can help others to be aware of such tricks?
