As you might be awared, Nikonians is going to remove the basic membership from lurking at their forum. To do so, you need to upgrade to silver membership at USD25 per annum. This is due to the reduction in advertising revenue and the operating cost is pass on to the forum members. If CS were to introduce the same scheme, will you quit and join other free forum?

I've already IGNORED all mail from Nikonians... wat kind of crap was tat... ;(

Even without looking at the poll results, I think we all know what the answer is.

I believe we have stressed this before - ClubSNAP will always remain a free-to-participate forum with all basic access and functions available to registered members. We will charge subscriptions to those who profit from ClubSNAP (eg Service Providers, Shoot/Workshop Organisers, Mass Sellers) and also provide an option to members who want to make more use of our Gallery via the Gallery Subscriptions.

We may explore having a "deluxe" or "professional" section in future which will be a subscription option - it all depends on what we can offer, and whether members see benefit in subscribing.

However, we cannot preclude that we may need some financial help (as we have done previously to get a replacement database server) in future but that will be strictly voluntary in nature.

passing the cost to consumers?:thumbsd:

If the cost is not passed onto whoever is consuming the benefits, who is going to bear the costs in the long run?

There is always advertisers....

There is always advertisers....
Subjective. :)

I am pro-fees paying as long as the amount is within reasonable affordable range on a yearly basis.

There is no free lunch in this world. Everything at the end of the day will still have to be measured in some forms of units. :)

There is always advertisers....

And where do the advertisers get their revenue from?

Why do advertisers want to spend their advertising budget here or anywhere else?

At the end of the day, the members here will have to pay, directly or indirectly.

THERE IS NOTHING FREE IN THIS WORLD. SOMEONE ENDED UP PAYING.

That will depend on individual........many have flickr pro account, smug smug and pbase, those are not free.....of course paid member will enjoy different privilage.

I'm happily paying S$50 per year for the other forum that i logged into, although anyone can also post without becoming a paid member.
If one felt that he wanted to support that particular forum or organisation (or can't live without it. :bsmilie:), i think he/she wouldn't mind paying a small annual subscription.

If I need to pay for a forum with flooded answers like search google x 100000000. Nah.

For me.... it would depend on cost and what extra I get as a paying member.....

if find gf/bf here & later get married need give CS ang pao? :sweatsm:

... it oso benefit mah. :bsmilie:

Actually, to attract advertisers, you will need some form of free membership scheme. That's how you get a huge base of readers/consumers. If not, no one will advertise there.

If google or yahoo suddenly charge basic membership fee to anyone who use it, they will close down very quickly.

CS was started when HWZ introduced the durex membership fee.

See how far CS has grown since then. Paid membership will be a well, back to square ONE.

People who saw the ads and then buy stuffs. At the end of the day, what we paid to buy whatever, pays for CS indirectly.

The idea that CS is free and we, who use this place, can have a free ride forever, is absurd.
