how does 1 protect oneself from harm?

wad does taking precaution really mean? :dunno:

more crowded place really = safer? really anot?

This is exactly what is counter productive, fear mongering!!!

Should we use this ONE incident and condemned Singapore to be crime ridden an inner city ghetto?

We should always be diligent and aware of our surrounding. Let's move on.

liddat = fear mongering? :rolleyes:

use your tripod to defend yourself...

it makes for a lousy weapon. mostly too big, heavy & hard to wield. an umbrella on the other hand is a much cheaper weapon...

i got a cheap tripod, so is easy to swing around...low cost and easy to replace.

But I like to shoot alone... can take my own sweet time. Had never encountered any bad incidences before either at home or away. In fact I always felt safe... this is an eye opener.

Be discreet when you go out to shoot. Take note of the surrounding and try not to bring any other valuables out when out shooting.

watch too much huang fei hong???

one can protect himself from harm by locking himself into a bombproof, bulletproof enclosure with stockpile supplies to last him for 20 years.

he can shoot those supplies for fun.

the thing is, he is not 100% safe either.

develop a sense of alertness. i have shot alone in singapore and in many other countries; i have had some funny experiences, maybe someday i will get unlucky, but i'd rather shoot than not shoot at all. that said, shooting alone in a dangerous place is literally asking for it. i always research the crime rate and look for horror stories when i travel alone, so that i know the areas to avoid. there will be something on the internet for sure, if there is something wrong with the place. and there are always, always signs to look out for. if the area's windows are all grilled heavily, for example, you know that you probably should be more alert than usual.

most incidents can be avoided if you take the necessary precautions. if you're unlucky, that's life, and nothing can be done about life.

always sit in a place where u can get a clear view of the surrounding, best if it's a bird's-eye view. never turn your back behind bushes.

keep your eyes , ears open and mouth shut..

Monopod?

if u know what u're doing anything can be a weapon.

Get a Manfrotto Monopod. That one sure can protect yourself. Extend out and you get yourself a staff. Only thing is after swinging about for few minutes, your arm feels like falling off.

Well in most cases they would be after your camera, its better to insure the camera instead so you don't have to risk injury by struggling with these thieves. At most you get a bruise etc.

Umbrella too light my friend.

Tripod is a good defence, if you have the strength to wield and swing it like its a simple wooden pole. ;p

Fort Canning Park is not a considered a dangerous place...

sense of alertness? eh, alert for wad? wad does 1 look out for? i oni look out for huge bee, hungry stray dogs, or peps who cant walk straight.

i've been to supposedly dangerous places thatz deserted & poorly lit alone. an ideal precaution is not to wear slippers so i can run when i need to.

you must study more of ip man's teachings then :bsmilie:

liddat must buy some kung fu movies to study liao?... :sweatsm:

learning some defensive moves is good, but having the frame of mind to act is a much harder act.
