i would advise you to go to shop and play around with both cameras. then buy the one that you like..

50D, but i probably biased to canon.... but the 50D has better low light detail rendition, d90 details seem bleached out

agree with skylet go shop and try first

Shouldn't the xxD series of Canon be compared to Dxxx series of Nikon? (i.e Canon 50D or Nikon D300)

Generally, mid weight series of the two brands features Magnesium Alloy for a more rugged and heavy-duty body. There're of course differences in features too which at the end of the day boils down to your needs and there isn't any better recommendation than the suggestion of trying them out.

Good luck.

After reading up on the specs, u need a test drive to see which one u like.

you may wish to go to DP review and compare the 2 specs before you go to any camera outlets and try out the body yourself and test out the system to which you prefer to hold.

one may prefer the ergonomics of Nikon or the brand of Canon,
it all boils down to you doing your homework... after careful study and comparison before getting the feel out of the 2...

by posting a thread here wont bring you too far and each and everyone has their own opinion towards the Brand, Body and System... at the end of the thread... you will still have the same dilemma

Get 50D. Better ISO contol and can use white lense :)

Comparing the two camera (50D & D90) may not be fair to the Nikon guys.... but people is also comparing the 450D & D90.... too.... :bsmilie:

If i'm not wrong, the 50D at high ISO is a lot smoother than the D90. Go search for comparisons, its all over the web.

Thanks all 4 the input, will go to court tampines to play wif both.;)

I tried the D90's video mode, it was quite amazing bar the sound quality. But I'm sure image quality wise the 50D would be a step out over the D90.

For budget shooter, I think it's good to go for D90. As the kit Lens is 18-105 VR.
So it actually covers a pretty good range. Maybe just add a 50mm prime lens for portrait shots.
So pricewise is quite affordable too.

Whereas for 50D, if you take the 18-55 kit. The range is actually pretty short.
If you take the 17-85, many said the image sharper & clarity not good.

So it depends a lot on your budget & which system feels more comfortable in your hands.
Happy shooting when you made up ur mind. ;)

I'd say to choose the 50D with the 17-55 2.8IS kit lens, pay a little more, but you won't need to to get new lenses in a long long time. Personally i'd go for the 50D too.

compare price to price.

BUT

if you do not need HD Video, Better Live View and other minute improvements, can consider the cheaper 40D or even a 2nd hand 30D. Use leftover money for good glass and some photography lessons, you are set.

The SRP of the 17-55 2.8IS cost nearly as much as a 40D now.... plus it is EF-S mount and cannot be used on a FF camera.. is it really worth it?
