Alright, allow me to have this kinda topic please. I have researched high and low but I am still torn between this two. I have to step into the DSLR world soon as I have been assigned to be the primary photographer for my cousin's wedding this August. I don't know if 450D + some decent lens can do the magic? S5 Pro seems very niche in this area, but buying complementary lens would be too costly.

I'm still young so my budget is pretty low, around 1.2k maybe. At first I was amazed by the S5 Pro, but it's just a body and that alone cost the same as the 450D kit. Plus, the package that entails with the 450D is too good to miss. I don't know which would suit me best and give me more creative control.

I find that Canon offers alot of affordable lens compared to the ones the S5 does.
Thats one of my determining factor. Colours won't be much of a factor since I love to postprocess my works. The other pull factor is that I currently own a Canon powershot so crossing over won't be a hassle since I can use my SD and so on. This would further secure my budget.

I am fond of nature, landscape, travel , conceptual - still-life photography.

Now 75% of my heart is for 450D kit + additional 50mm f1.8 lens. Would I make a bad choice at the end of the day?:sweat: I have been pondering upon this decision for quite some time now, I want my first DSLR to be one with a promising start I guess.

In all honesty, ANY DSLR would serve your purposes. What's more important is to get a good flash.

As for SD Cards, be careful... the el-cheapo SD cards can be so slow that it may have problems with larger pictures if you shoot a burst.

There's specific advice that ANYONE considering a new DSLR should take heed of: Hold the cameras. Use the cameras. Get a good idea of the ergonomics, see which one feels more comfortable for you. In the end, YOU will be the one taking pictures.

As for the flash system, IMHO Nikon (and thus Fuji) has an excellent flash system.

since u dun shoot things that require a high fps, the s5 pro is worth considering. but personally i find that it is a rather niche camera and will likely to get it as a backup than my main camera.

The 450D have rather a a big buffer, it could take at least 9 burst shots at 3.5fps regardless of the type of SD card being used.... For Wedding event, it is more than enough... :)

Please withdraw from buying DSLR with your current budget to shoot a wedding, as there are more hidden accessories to be unveal. :)

hmmm i dont quite like the use of flash actually. 92% of my works have no flash fired. But I know its quite essential for wedding photography so I'll buy a cheap external flash i guess

yup thats one of the factor, but i don't know if i would need it one day.

cheap external flash may cause you to spend more $$ in future(like getting another original flash) if you intend to use it long enough for other purpose.

Please do consider ur budget for getting external flash.... which is a must for wedding

btw u will definitely need a flash for the wedding, like it or not. a fast prime, a flash and a decent zoom. if u factor those in, the s5 pro will definitely blow your budget. even if u secure everything 2nd hand, i think u will easily hit 2k or more.

Im in exactly the same predicament as you..but my hearts goes to S5pro.

dont worry the current budget is just for the kit.

i have a few months to worry bout the flash and all and my birthday falls in that period so guess what will be my bday wish..

All the best then. :)

hmm i meant the canon lenses are cheaper than the lens compatible for fuji
depends on which range. The top end Nikon is more affordable then Canon.

Nikkor Optics is better but i'm not saying that Canon lenses is not good. (don't :flame: me)

are you sure? Pls name it
135 f2
70-200is/vr
...

one more thing, EF-S lens only on digital body, DX lens can mount and use on Nikon DSLR (FX/DX). *FX @ lower resolution. :)
