Question to Wedding photographer

Recently, I was seeking some comments from my good friend regarding my wedding shoots.

The feedback is I am very focused on capturing the so called "moments", but in many shots, the bride / groom does not look flattering. For wedding shots, its extremely important that the bride looks pretty..else they will never select those shots.

My question is
"do you delete those photo where the bride is "ugly" but the moment/composition is great?"

Thats probably a very very vague question. Perhaps you could post one or two images for us to look at and try to decipher what you are really asking?

Well.. i usually delete off those DARK photographs.
Never will i delete moments.
Even if i catch a blur picture of 'moment', i will let
bride groom decide on the pic.

Maybe your photographer did not catch those moments and concentrate more on poses and such.. (all formal thingy).

Hmm... To me if it's not eye catching enough to ponder, don't show it. It's simple actually, there's some kind of magic in every moment shots a photographer took. If it doesn't show that magic, nothing else much to say.

You can keep the photo in another folder, it is up to the couple if they want to keep the photos...

Of course... sucky photos... dont show..
What i meant was for moments.. as in when they laughing etc...
Even if its a blurred pic... do not delete.. unless its total darkness !

Think in many facets, both as a photographer and also as a consumer.No one wants to look compromised no matter how award winning the shot is.

how can the moment be great if the bride looks ugly?

anyway u don't have to worry too much about that problem. sometimes/most times, even when she looks gorgeous AND it is a great moment, she STILL say she ugly.

get used to it man.

u see that's the thing... ugly is a tough word to use because it's so subjective.

and.. if a bride really thinks she's ugly no matter wat, make up, great photographer, great light, great moment, then i think the problem is way deeper than what we photographers can do to help her.

if you caught a bride in a very unglam way in your so called "moments" capture, show it to her and she will remember you for life.

so just use your common sense to do the right thing.

Ugly is not the good word in this case. Its more like the bride does not find herself "pretty".

I give an example, sorry, no picture for illustration..

The bride bent down and played with a kid, the kid was showing a cute expression, and the eye contact between the bride and kid show strong connection...

But.. she felt her tummy looks unflattering, because she bent and showed spare tyre ..
I like the composition, and the angle make it difficult to crop the tummy away.

in this case, this shot is a keeper for me.. but not for the bride.

For these shots I normal do PP to "mask" off the imperfection....

The best thing to do is to let a female e.g. your gf/wife/friend to vent thru the photos. If she goes.. "Eee.. so unglam!" than you better remove that photo. What we men thinks is good might not be good in women's eye so a female POV is always welcomed.
