I am looking for a bag that is compact enough that will fit a Canon 40D (no battery grip) with the 17-55/2.8IS attached and still have room for a 70-200/2.8IS and the 580EXII flash. Of course, I would expect the bag will still have some room for small items such as spare batteries, rocket blower, spare memory card, etc... I am looking for one that is compact enough for me to carry it everywhere and not feel too bulky so the key word here is Compact.

I think the main reason why my 70-200/f2.8IS is under utilized is because I don't have a compact camera bag that can fit this lens. I am willing to go without the lens hood if it helps to reduce the bag's size.

Currently, if I want to bring this lens out, I will have to either put it in my Lowepro Fastpack350 or the Billingham445 - both of them are quite bulky.

I also have a Billingham Hadley Small that fits my 40D with 17-55 lens (attached faced down) with my 580EXII.

Any recommendation for a good fit if brand and cost is not an issue. Thanks in advance...

try tamrac messenger 4 (5534) or messenger 5 (5535, with a laptop compatment..) ...it is a slim profile bag, price at $60+ for the 4 n around 100 for the 5... or the more pricy one like TT UD series or Domke F8xx series...

i wonder where can i buy the tamrac messenger 4 (5534)? is there any shops open on sunday? thx

Hi, I just bought my 70-200 2.8IS and I store it mounted (with hood reversed or off) in a lowepro toploader 75aw. With the bag alone, I can store a 400D gripped + 70-200 + 580EXII + batteries / tissue / Cloth in the front pouch. It's a *very* compact (thin, but deep / long) camera bag.

From there onwards, I add sliplock pouches / lens pouches. I have a sliplock 60 AW pouch, and that allows my 17-40L + hood (17-55 hood) in position. This pouch sliplocks to one side of the toploader, and my water bottle holder sliplocks to the other side of the bag.

Hi, thanks for the suggestion, if at all possible, I would prefer to have all the lenses (both 17-55 and 70-200) inside the bag rather than have one hanging outside in a pouch.

However, one question regarding the tight fit of camera body/lens with 70-200 2.8IS with AW75: any problem fitting the lens into the bag if I have a Arca-Swiss lens plate on the 70-200?

From looking at Tamrac site, it looks to me the Velocity models (7x/8x) are the ones they recommend. I will definitely want to take a look at the real bags myself.

Where can I find the complete range of Tamrac bags in Singapore?

You might want to consider the lowepro stealth reporter 400AW...

400AW will be too big for what I wanted. As mentioned, I only want the bag to fit a camera body with lens attached (either 17-55 or 70-200) plus 580EX flash. 400AW as I understand, can holds 2 SLRs and 4-5 lenses which my Billingham 445 can already handle.

Am using Tamrac Velocity 8x....nicely fit D90 w/ grip , Tammy 17-50 , Nikkor 70-200(With either mounted on camera with hood reversed) , 50mm , SB900 in main compartment.AA batt charger, dust blower,en-el3e charger , sd cards ,3sets of AA batts ,microfibre cloth and some other small stuffs in front compartment.

Looks like you have very similar equipment as I have and this most likely is the bag that I am looking for.

I am wondering if I can squeeze them into 7x.

Couple of questions:
(1) do you feel the camera with 70-200 on is fitted quite tight or there are still some room to move around?
(2) did you compare the 7x before you bought the 8x? Is there any reason you go for the larger one?

Dont think I can fit everything in the 7x....

1)maybe just a tiny wee bit of space to move around as the camera would be "hugged" by flash(in the provided flash cover of sb-900-quite thick) on 1 side and lens in a padded case on the other...back of camera would be in line with the top zipper if 70-200 is mounted.I also have black rapid strap in the inner top main compartment and that strap is at least 1-1.5inch thick when folded.so leaving the strap out would leave slightly more brething room for the camera.

2)nope did not compare as I bought the bag when I only had 17-50 ,50mm,flash....

It's not a tight fit. Without a hood (or with one reversed), the mounted 70-200 on a gripped 400D doesn't take up the entire bag. Definitely can fit your lens plate (i think).

Yup, for sheer range and different options of bags, these 3 shops seem to have the most. :)

Thanks. I will go take a look. Actually, I plan to bring all my gears and go to K13 tomorrow to take a look at the Billingham Hadley Large as well.
