Hello! I am new to this forum. I have a problem with my Canon 430EX Flash. It just could not fire and the screen is kind of wonky. Can you recommend me shops that could possibly repair it?

But i do hear that CSC cost of repair is more expensive than the ones the shop does. So I am wondering where is the best place to send it for repair other than CSC. I am cash-strapped.

is it under warranty? send it to the service center, else you risk voiding warranty... and if another shop messes up your flash, you're just wasting more money. Dont risk this.

Sadly, this was a imported set. Therefore it is not covered by the local CSC. It is a Japanese set.

Don't risk it. Save up more and send it in to csc.

yah.. at least ppl at CSC know wat they are doing n have the right tools to do so..

CSC will still repair imported sets dont they? You'll just have to pay for the repairs. I'm sure they'll take it in.

Anyway, if I may go slightly off topic... I was quite disappointed with CSC today, I sent my 85mm in for calibration due to front focusing issue, and it was not fixed, infact I felt that my focusing got slightly worse... I had 2 hunting experience for the first time today... on an 85mm F1.8 USM.. =(

Alrite, I guess I will ask CSC and several repair shop to quote me how much it will cost.

I think TCW (The Camera Workshop) at Pennisula does repairing also. But what i know is they do mainly lens. Not sure about flash though.

That's like calling a doctor and asking for X-Ray on the phone. Without proper inspection nobody can give you a reliable quote. Go to CSC and at least get a proper assessment of the damage. Then you can decide whether you give it to CSC or any other shop.
Worst case you get quoted cheaply and then you'll wait 8 weeks and pay 80% of original price.

I think the best is send back to Canon unless you able to find a shop which you trust.

your best bet is call fatigue, our friendly and efficient camera repair man :)

I got my flash back and paid $150 for the repairs. But most importantly, it is working fine now. However, is $150 worth it?
