its been an hour since i got to know about it, but i am still frankly, quite in shock...

What do I think ...

Is it really for the benefit of the child, or does the child serve as a proxy for a show-off dad?

well, few years ago, sec sch kids already start owning new DSLR just released, like i think some young members here have, 1Ds or even 20D during that time...

D300 is not a new DSLR, so not much of a surprise... what will surprise me is maybe a H3D.

Boi talking about mind blowing

You should see how many student drive sport car in NTU and NUS. What is D300 to compared to that?

ok.. maybe i have been hiding in my shell for too long.. but goodness me. i got a shock when i got to know about it.

and they were juz like 50cm away from me.. i almost fainted. and i could only afford a D80 at age 25.....

sports car could be their parents.. just borrowing ;)

Sam from John3:16 told me about a kid going into his store with cash for a 1DsmkIII.

Honestly,D300 isn't exp.
Don't count on my words.Tho a 19 yo student,I've been taught to save and obtain what I want and since I've no commitment,2k,3k,4k is a matter of months only.
I think the issue would here is if's spoiling the kid.

well not trying to side another 'fortunate' kid... lol...

during my time, i have my 1st PC (own) in sec 1, in primary school i've already been to most of those ah peh computer course, and i start to dismantle a few old PCs, so they think its time i build my own during sec 1, and went to SLS to buy parts myself and software during fridays after school. approx 20 years ago... come to think about it, how time flies...

that time i wasn't in least bit interested in photography... but my bro have a X700 around that time, probably earlier by a year or so... he is about sec3 or 4... dunno what lens, last i saw, its fungus free (fungus come Free of Charge)

i guess the dad is thinking its time for him to go into DSLR, probably he show great interest and achievement using his prosumer or point & shoot.

but then have to see what kinda family... if rich family, i think a D300+17-50f2.8+70-200f2.8+50mmf1.4+85mmf1.4 is nothing... probably to a middle income ones, a D300+kit lens is a bit stretching? so have to gauge on each individual basis.

if the dad know nuts about it... just tell him that the camera need to run in, so u bring home and tell him that the lower the number, the more powerful... u 'downgrade'...

tell him see... D3 best, D80 middle, D300 low grade... same like canon, 1Ds best, 40D middle grade, 400D low grade, 1000D, no grade...

i am an 8 year old with a d3, are you going to lynch my parents and burn me at the stake?

anyways, i think it's perfectly fine. and frankly speaking, what a child has in terms of material goods has nothing to do with his being spoilt or not. i would call him lucky, and i hope he knows that he is that lucky, and he does not become spoilt as a result of being lucky.

whether one is spoilt or not has to do with their behaviour, their attitude and that, i would say, has loads to do with upbringing as well as personal viewpoints and experience. i would in no way associate what a person has with his or her character. it is never a fair equation.

and so what will happen to those kids when they grow up?

are they in for a rude shock to the reality of life? or will they always be living in a world full of silver lining....

What's there to be proud of?
At the end of the day,the money belongs to their parents and even if they inherit it,what claims can they make to say they earn it?

What good is sitting on a mountain of riches which comes from the effort of others?
