Why you care?
Hi Everyone,
Have seen all the Close-up and Marco shots,

Please tell me what lens to purchase,
I am using Canon 400D with my Sigma 18-200mm DC OS and Canon 70-300mm IS USm.

Want to do more on Marco shooting

Thanks and advance.
Peter

EF 100 f2.8? I just got it, so far im happy with it.

Hi TS, sorry to borrow your thread ;p

I am cracking my head on what type of zoom lens that I should buy

Below are my currents lens I have. I think I need a longer length lens above 70mm so I can take some animals shots in zoo~and maybe landscape and btw can I use a normal telephoto zoom lens as a macro lens too by attach the raynox250?

1) Tokina Macro lens 100m 1:2 ratio
2) Tokina Zoom lens 28-70mm
3) Nikon kit lens 18-55mm VR

I'm more into macro shooting, is it better to get a macro telephoto lens instead of normal telephoto zoom lens?

Macro lens above 100mm the price far too expensive =.=

Do consider the tamron 180mm Macro. it should be ~1-1.2k

VERY sharp, albeit with slow AF..

180mm should be gd enuff for the zoo.

Hi scenar, wah~ thanks for the feedback, hahaha I'll be most happy if I can get the 180mm macro lens but not now, it just too expensive. :(

I was thinking of getting a telephoto zoom lens at least I can take shots for far distance,(animals in the zoo) and if I can convert this telephoto zoom lens to a macro lens even better (lens + Kenko tubes) ^ ^.

Currently I already got a Tokina 100mm macro lens + raynox250 but the macro lens only having 1:2 and not 1:1. (cant really get near to flying insects....)

Not sure is it ok for getting Tamron 75-300 telephoto zoom lens for my D90?

There is nothing better then a dedicated macro lens. You might want to consider the canon 300 f/4 too. If not the Canon 100mm, 180mm. Yes it's quite expensive but if you're serious into macro thats the lens you might consider.

go for the 100mm range if the 180mm is too expensive. a dedicated macro lens is better than stacking more glass upon glass.

Hi log1t3ch,

I already got the 100mm macro but is only that the magification only 1:2 and not 1:1.

The canon 100 & tamron 100 are 1:1.

There is no one lens to fit all the bills. Just get the one you are using it with. Right tool for the right job. ;)

Why not sell off your lens and get a Tamron 90mm or Sigma 105mm Macro lens? For longer reach, you can consider getting a teleconvertor.

Hi Falcon,

That's sound a good choice haha, can consider sell it + top up $ buy a better macro lens.

Just get a 500D close up filter for your 70-300 IS. Less than 200 dollars:)

Hi 168,
I've tried macro on a 100mm 2.8lens macro, very sharp lens, but couldnt get the magnification that Doc has, showing the fly's eyes in such clarity and detail. the 100mm 2.8 does pretty good portraits too. or as doc said, u might want to consider the sigma 150mm macro.

btw, sideline a bit, can u tell me more about yr 70-300mm is usm? not much talked about in CS. is the image quality good and sharp at 300mm? how's the autofocus? heard the AF is not the ring type Usm. would appreciate yr comments. xie xie
