len cleaning

Hi all,

i'm new to dslr.

if my lens have some oil of it ( the glass) can i use water and normal cloth to clean it?

or what must i do ?

First, it's a lenS (plural: lenses). Secondly: just Google a bit or search the forum here. Lots of information. Thirdly: water will help you to buy a new lens soon ...

normally i use blower, brush, cloth and lens pen

blow off big particle first, brush off small one, den lens pen (especially when got finger prints).. dint buy lens cloth..

use lenspen.. You can easily get the standard ones to clean lenses from cathay..

Lenspen is like the best tool for lens cleaning.. Remember to get the original ones.. Thats y I always get from Cathay..

Two links to read more. I think lens pen is useless if you really have oil or oil-like fluid on your lens. Try to find out how this happened and be more alert in future.

I have a few actually... 1 is from the cleaning kit (Kinetronics) and I got my hands on some Ethanol.

i saw the kinetronics. didn't have blower. did you get a blower too?

where you get the ethanol? pure alcohol can be used to clean lenses? thanks

Yes, bought it separately... a Giottos rocket.

Eh, can't reveal source, it's from a fren.

And yes, it cleans very well.

Ethanol is the scientific name of what is commonly known as 'alcohol'.

how do u guys keep ur lenspen kit? mine is still in the same old box that came with it..
so u guys keep it in a bag?, small box?

wondering which is better to keep it clean..

as for the TS, im new also but using lenspen sicne i gt it free with my camera..seems good!!
except need to get a blower..

For oil i use pec pad with eclipse cleaning solution from Sensor Swab.

I keep my lenspen in a ziplock bag.

just curious, can a $3 balloon hand pump do the job as a blower too? it is strong enough ( more effective imo ) and it's cheaper. don't get why ppl would spend $10+ just on a dedicated one =/
