Contemplating to get a DSLR

Hello hello and hello.

I've been contemplating to get a digital SLR and still am.
I'm not very very very into taking photos but i love beautiful photos(duh who doesnt right).
And yes, i love the effect of photos taken by DSLRs.

Thats why im contemplating to get a simple one but i wont know which lens does what and yea im basically a noob at this.
Will someone please recommend something, well not too expensive. Im trying not to hit over 1.3k
and better if its under.

Or tell me if im gonna waste my money getting a DSLR!

Only you can tell if the money will go to waste. Best is if you have a friend with one, borrow for a while and take some photos. Take the photos home to see if it has the 'effect' you mentioned. It's a long journey to learn how to make good photos, so you need to be prepared to learn, learn and learn. Have fun!

if you are not very very very into photography, i will suggest a pro-consumer cameras instead a dslr.

Are you already settled on Nikon? You should not, there are many good options (not that Nikon is a bad one).
Read more:

Read slowly and carefully. If you don't understand all details then read again or use Google or Wikipedia for further details. SLR means learning a lot. You will get the freedom to do much more with DSLR - but it will be wasted if you are not able to use it.

ask yourself why you want to buy... only you can answer that question...
then, ask yourself if you are willing to go through the trouble of carrying a DSLR around and shooting pics...
if you like to shoot macros or wildlife, are you patient enough to wait for hours and sweat and sweat?
are you willing to spend time in front of the computer editing your pics?
and would you enjoy the process of doing it....

if you answer is YES, then go ahead and get one, else, think again, you might be better off with a digicam or prosumer...

and u can never spend too much money

we are in recession and we need humans to spend

Spending 1.3 K does not guaranty beautiful pictures....

I ever saw pictures of an experienced photographer (he is conducting the outing shoot by the way) with a Ricoh GX100 which outshines any mother father sons Dxx, Dxxx, xxxD, xxD, xD.

You don't need an DSLR to create beautiful Daily pictures....

Certainly you won't be wasting money if photography is what you like.

I presume the 'effect' you're talking about is a nice picture?

Many compact digital cameras can give nice pictures. If you want a level higher, then get prosumers for manual controls.

If you're not very very very interested in taking photos, chances are you won't use your camera regularly. If this is the case, why bother spending $1000+ on dslr?

If the 'effect' you're looking for, is those special lightings, "out-of-this-world" scenes, then most likely you need photoshop skills to achieve it. You got the time to learn photoshop?

What you need for photography:

Time,
Balls to shoot things others won't,
Eyes to see what others might not,
A love for technical details and reading up on specs,
and a future budget allowance of roughly twice your starting amount within the next year or two.

This is about as much as i know, don't let your "not very very very into taking photographs" affect your decision too much, cause personally, i started on film because i liked the film-noir feel, and i love heavy solid shutters in comparison to our normal digi cams these days which are beyond silent.
Of course, i now prefer more silent shutters because when i shoot street under close confines or in places where i should be inconspicuous like a hospital.....


and think of what your interests are.
Think of what kind of photography u may be getting into, because your interests can help to decide which brand you'll be wanting to enter into.
There is no do-it-all brand, each to fit one's needs. There are popular brands and the less popular brands, but still - no do-it-all brands.
