Dont know where to shout about this in what forum. So decided to post in Kopitiam of clubsnap. Plz forgive me if this kind of post not allowed.

I wonder when will bus and mrt fares come down as now oil price is 1/3 of what used to be in latest fare hike??

By right, now minimum fare (bus) should be 1/3 x $0.72 = $0.24.

Is everyone sleeping, closing eyes or just dont know??

No doubt public transport company can make billions of $$$ annually. :(

Enough is enough. :nono:

you think they care??? Honestly.... my transport cost was up like 15% - 20% per week ever since the last increase.

Following your logic, your salary should also be cut to a third.

some costs components of bus operators

a) fuel
b) staff
c) spare parts (maintainance costs)
d) replacing newer buses
e) not that i know of... :sweatsm:

when (a) goes down, (b), (c), (d) & (e) goes up.

Public transport isn't supposed to be a luxury. So, replacing newer buses shouldnt be an excuse to increase fare. It should be just a "must-do" thing as tear and wear can't be avoided.

Also, who cares whether bus is newer or not as long as can ride safely, clean enough, no water dropping from ceiling/aircon (which i often see).

Furthermore, dont tell me, if u go into transport business, u think u can just buy buses/trains ONCE and FOR all....never need to be replaced...) Which business got no running cost? And of cuz, if u just pin-point on costs, it may look big. But most importantly, we should look at earnings rather than just costs alone. Then u will see a rock (costs) and a mountain (earnings).

"Thou who has yet to see an elephant (earnings) may think tiger (costs) is the biggest."

And if everyday expenses are low, u think staff can still demand higher pay whereas bosses will use "low expenses" as excuse not to increase salary.

If transport fares are low, u think people importing daily food from countries like malaysia can still complain about costs?

So, it's a win-win for majority of the public.

But current situation is win-win for s_ _ _ _holders. lol :(

Ya sure, i dont mind that has my salary increased as fuel price increased.

U can't compare two things which are not directly proportional. (i suppose ur not a 5-year-old kid which need to be taught this simple logic. ;))

In my topic, i'm fairly comparing Fuel price and Fare as the latter has increased when the former increased.

Also, salary much depends on effort/duty/responsibility that a person puts in.

PS: My 1st post 1/3 x 0.72 may not be a formula to directly apply. I just trying to say the fare should hav come down by now.

No, I'm older thn 5 years. But it seems you thought that somehow public transportation cost is proportional to oil prices.

they are enjoying the fruits of the labor to lobby for higher fares. bonus time is coming up. weehoooo... do you think they f care?

Well for those of us who live in Singapore long enough, when it comes to the prices of public goods such as transport, there's always this downward ridgidity; in general prices either stay or go up. It hardly goes down.

In this case, I find the premise of minimum fare should be 2/3 cheaper simply because fuel prices have come down by 2/3 is, as mentioned too simplistic. In addition, others have rightfully pointed out that fuel is not the only expenditure which transport companies incur. There's also manpower! If regular people like us are crying out for more pay, don't you think the bus captains have been asking the same?

In addition, public transport companies do not make billions of $$$ annually. If you've checked out Comfort-Delgro's financial reports, you'd have learnt that their net profit stands @ $244.6 and $233 millions for 2006 and 2007 respectively.

Before I get flamed, I just want to point out that I am like you, takes public transport daily and would love prices (all prices) to come down because I'm also feeling the pinch too! We Singaporean tend to 'complain' and I do my part regularly (haha!) but for complain/argument sake, at least let's do some homework so that we can at least get our facts right and gain come credibility.

At the end of the day, regardless what becomes of this thread, we know what is the outcome ... it's here to stay ... :(

hard luck, don't think the price will ever drop...

those annual report got say where those earnings go to rite?

aniway for the pay thingy... take away teh top 10% pay bracket and see where is their net profit.

Still I agree... it's here to stay. :bsmilie:

Well, you need to refer to their annual financial report, their gross earnings vs. their operation cost (for local market) you have the answer. Its a cash cow business.
With the influx of more people taking public transport and with the increase in fare,
do you think they will earn less?

Those who have not invested in their stock might consider doing it for mid to long term. With a not bad dividends given out and share prices appreciation over long term, its not a bad deal. ;)

Well, at least, we "S'porean" don't go out to the street to strike because of increase in transport fare. We are the "peaceful" lots... :bsmilie:

Peaceful and sedated lot.

would rather say "numb" liao...

By right, now minimum fare (bus) should be 1/3 x $0.72 = $0.24.

using your logic,

the bus services only run on oil

driver eat oil also, they pay him in oil, the cleaners who clean the bus also.. the replacement for bus parts also made from oil

i know the outcome liao!

more :( :( :( :(!!

Nothing much you can do now.
Just be more careful with your vote next time.:)

well at least, electricity price will be coming down. :bsmilie:

WHen oil prices goes up, everything instantly goes up.. but when oil prices drop, not everything drops. Being public transport operators, shouldn't the commuters be their priority?
