Trails & No Trails
Very nice. What lens, f-stop, shutter speed did you use?
Was it pitch dark or was there some stray light?

I was using Tokina 11-16 F2.8
At that vicinity, light pollution is quite low. As you can see, the lamps are all switched off as well. There is some stray light behind me from a toilet thus the foreground is rather bright. But nonetheless, the number of visible stars is more than what we normally see in Singapore. By counting the Orion Belt, you could roughly guage the light pollution of a city.
The shutter speed plays a big part. To not have trails, I used a shutter speed of ard 30 seconds. Anything around 1 min and you will see trails of the stars. But at 30 seconds, you will need to bump up ISO. For my case, I used ISO400. I did not want to go any further because my camera noise reduction is not really that fantastic. But as I was using F2.8 and at 11mm, it is still considered quite sharp. One thing to note is that, through the viewfinder, I could only see a pitch black scene and the AF will not work. The darkness of the scene makes it very tedious as you will need to keep adjusting to get the correct composition. Although I could see the Orion Belt using naked eyes, but through the VF, you cant see a single thing. In addition, I just set to manual focus and focus to infinity.
