Lens! Help anyone?

Hi all!

I'm currently looking to buy a lens which has a big aperture, zoom, wide angle. Budget below 700SGD. I was looking at Tamron's 17 - 50mm F2.8 however it can't work on full frame. Anymore suggestions for me?

Hang on... You want the lens to be able to work on full-frame, although you are currently using a DX format Nikon D80? Hmm... Kinda hard to match these requirements...

yeah well, just IN CASE. Cause i've been shooting film recently like rangefinders and stuff and im intending to borrow my friend's film slr. so I have to look out for lens for FF.

WA zooms do not have much zooming range, for full frame Sigma's 15-30mm but aperture not that big. if buy DX format lense cannot satisfy full frame requirement, there's no 2-ways about it.

2nd hand option oso hard to fit $700 requirement.

however, if the aperture ring is adjustable on the lens for DX then should be ok on FF right? just that there'll be vignetting?:think:

not sure, i use Canon wan. but i think technically the electrical contact cannot communicate?:dunno: yes there will be vignetting at wide setting, which defeats the purpose of getting that lense.

The image circle is designed smaller. It'll mount on a full-frame camera, but you'll get vignetting at all focal lengths.

i was speaking from experience with a (Canon) standard zoom lense. at tele range no vignet. :embrass:

yeah... well, maybe i'll just stick to 17-35. online reviews don't say very good stuff about it though. :/:dunno:

I don't see many options available.

How about sigma 10-20? If I'm not wrong, it works on FF. Not a real fast lens, it's f4-5.6.
But f4 is just 1 stop from the super expensive f2.8 lenses.

the Sigma 10-20mm is oni for APS-C sized DSLR. :sweat: but the 15-30mm is fine, but aperture is f3.5-4.5.

Oh so I was wrong. Sorry about that. Couldn't check Sigma's website, the site was down.

Then it seems 15-30 would be good. Wide angle primes can be way cheaper. But then the TS wants zoom..

i wouldn't say wide angle primes can be cheaper. I own a 20mm sigma f1.8. Heavy as hell but I want a zoom to let say 50 mm (which is why the inital want of 17 - 50) to do portraits.

Well that's why I said primes would have been better.

In anycase f3.5 -4.5 isn't really slow. Just a few thirds of stops from f2.8.

If you want to get a fast lens, the only way is to up you budget. No other way.
