I'm looking for a portable tripod to bring around on oversea trips and hope to hear some input from you guys if you already own tripods.

Probably price and design is my main consideration

Cheers

I was looking for a tripod to bring overseas too. The first I saw was a very small and light one. Its tall but the stands are really thin. And its not that stable I feel. About $30.

In the end, I bought a cheapo tripod (Digipod or something) at challenger for $17.90. Its quite stable. But LX3 is not that heavy or big, the cheapo tripod is good enough for me. But I predict it will last just a year. Ha.. cant expect much from that kind of price.

Maybe I will invest in a better one in the future if I really really need it.

Being using a Velbon Ultra Maxi-M for couple of yrs starting with FZ-20, FZ-18 and now LX-3. Quite happy with the folded length of 33.5 cm. Not much longer then a ruler when fold and able to reach 138.5 cm when extend. Fit nicely into a small backpack. Only complain... wasn't exactly light at 920g...

I use a smallish Gitzo tripod with a Manfrotto ballhead. When I really need to go light, I bring my Gorilla SLR pod.

Gorillapod? how much is it selling for ?

can try calling ms colors to find out.
$80 for slr zoom.
the none-zoom model is 50 plus.

wow okie but it serves its purpose. what im looking for is a tripod from ground up

there was a PPCP Pro Tripod V1 for $80 in the buy/sale but its reserved.

was looking at the manfrotto digi series... would it be overkill for a PNS like the LX-2? i mean..a tiny camera and a big tripod..

manfrotto has this series called digipod, which i have and i even use it for my D70, which i find is fine so long as i did not use the heavy lens.

Using my Sony VCT-R100, incredibly light and handy, more than adequate for compacts, and cost only $30.

This is what I'd get. Maybe swap the head to a ballhead. The compact size, quick deployment, and good sturdy qualities for smaller cameras is excellent. Definitely worth the price.
