I am planning and have save up money for my first DSLR.

Should I go for Nikon D90 Kit (AF-S DX 18-55) $1799 add $299 for AF-S DX VR 55-200 or

Canon EOS 40D Twin Lens Kit (EF S18-55IS & EF S55-250IS) for $1999

Are the lens good for action and landscapes?

Please try a search. There are several threads exactly like yours.

Ok you are a carrot waiting to be chopped lol. Why pay more when you can have the same thing for less?

Look around your friendly neighbourhood shops(i like John 3:16 at funan) and you will realise the price is much lower(by around 200-300?). And do your home work.

D90 + 18-55 lens for $1799.....????? you gotta be kidding, right?
D90 body alone can be had for around $1360 if I'm not mistaken. So the 18-55 costs... $430??
hmmmmmmmm......... interesting.....

Alan photo quote me $1520 plus 18-55

Freebies at Sitex

D90 (2x8GB SD Card, Cleaning Kit, Bag, Screen Proctored, Card Reader, Tripod)
40D (2x8GB CF, 1x4GB CF, Card Reader, Bag, Screen Protector, Tripod)

As a first time buyer are those freebies good as I do not have any of those?

Sitex sold this at what price?

better go get the d90 standard kit for around 1670 dllars

d90 body + 18 - 105 VR lens.

You are better off with this than the offer at Sitex.

Putting the 40D side by side with D90

MP 10.1 vs 12.3
ISO 100-3200 vs 200-6400
Max Shutter 1/8000 vs 1/4000
Continuous Drive 6.5 vs 4.5
Storage Type CF vs SD

What other spec should I like out for if I intend to use it for action, outdoor shooting?

frankly, all these specs are no guide for u. only serve to confuse u.

i'd say u wun make any mistake buying either camera.

mistakes u may make

1. bought items at high price (u will never buy at the cheapest price, but at least at a reasonable one).

2. buy, then UPGRADE

3. tink tat higher spec camera make better pic.

jus buy, learn to use it properly, and enjoy photography.

hope to see your works soon.

***perhaps only one difference is somewat critical, CF vs SD.
