hi bros and sis,

i am new to photography and have the interest for quite some time back. Need your advice on several issues:

- Prefer to get Digital SLR cam. Do you recommend new set or second hand ones? (i do own a compact dig cam, olympus)
- what DSLR cam is good for newbies? Prefer brand canon or nikon
- taking photography for leisure only
- what other things need to look out? or di you have any good website to recommend for me to read, to gain some knowledge.

thanks in advance:):)

Hi, firstly whats your budget? Every DSLR out there be it of any brand, is good for newbies.

To improve, the best would be heading down to the NLB to borrow some books to read, they are free!

Hello...welcome.

I would suggest that you do some research to find out what each brand has to offer and go to the shops to have a feel of the cam before deciding which to buy.

Nikon/Canon/Sony/Pentax/Olympus all have very good entry level cams for beginners.

Get an entry level canon or nikon like the D40 D50 or Canon 300, 350D, 400D . They're all good, except in extra demanding situations like very high iso but still, that can be fixed with noiseninja, etc to an extent. 2nd hand will do, it's way cheaper

Hi welcome to CS:) look around here sometime you may get a good price and the DSLR is in good condition if you have tie budget:D

thanks bros for the advice and welcoming me in this forum and yet another expensive hobbies.

as for the budget, i myself not sure. but of course, i will not splurge on so much money, as budget not permit. at most ard 1k (not to sure if i can get one with such a budget)

with regard to the 2nd hand cam, is it worth it to buy? still contemplating of buying either a new one or 2nd hand one. if i going to buy a 2nd hand cam, what are the things that i need to look out? TIA:)

maybe go for the Sitex IT show look around the price range for DSLR and decide to buy new or 2nd hand Cam

1k is more than enough to get u started (camera + kit lens).

second hand is a good alternative. i always buy 2nd hand whenever possible. as for reliability, so far so good.

anyway, most DSLR in the Buy n Sell are very new.
