Lens Conversion Adapter

Hi. I have a question. I have a Canon 400D camera and I recently bought a 2nd-hand Takumar lens with M42 adapter. I tried removing the adapter, but it seems very tight. So I would like to ask if it is possible to remove the adapter after fitting to a lens. I am still new to DSLR set up, so have no prior knowledge as to whether the adapter can be removed and remounted onto another lens.

It is supposed to be removed so that you can fit onto other lenses.
