:embrass: So many new netbook models coming into the market these days......

Now need to think about its keyboard size, battery consumption and value for money too...haizz. Some don't even have bluetooth lor.

Just FYI, the new Atom Processor can only support 1280x600 screen size so cannot run Nikon NX, Photoshop. Unless you set screen bigger but that would mean you have to scroll when you run these apps. I got the MSI WindPC and HP2133, found that HP2133 screen can support 1280x768 and can run NX and Photoshop without having to scroll screen.

Though HP2133 has slower processor and hotter I find I used this more than MSI WindPC. So unless you will not use it for photo processing at all then better look at other than current Intel Atom, maybe next version Silverthorne version. Bought Netbook for storing photos when travelling but it would be great if could load Photoshop too.

I am looking forward to Silverthorne version Netbook if they make one. :)

The Atom processor has nothing at all to do with screen resolution.

In that case, the current Netbook models are not capable of running Photoshop without scrolling the screen, don't know how to describe this but so far only HP2133 is capable.

Anyway, you will see a message to increase screen setting when you try to load Photoshop.

my sis just got a dell netbook. the machine is great for surfing and e-mails. thats about it. tried to install ms office and takes forever! processing is quite slow. better to get 13inch notebooks if more processing is required.

The purpose of Netbook is the small form factor, very useful if you use for travelling, I use to bring a Vosonic HDD case cum viewer cost around ?? I can't remember actually. With the Netbook it is just a little top-up you can get to store your photos and do a lot more when travelling.

Everything else it cannot compare with the Notebook that's for sure.

Just curious, why are the current Netbooks on Intel Atom N270 all cannot do higher resolution? say more than 1024x600. Looking for one that can at least load Photoshop properly but keeping the small form factor.

thats because of the small LCD screen, the max res of the screens themselves are 1024... btw, you should look out for the samsung NC10. Good netbook in terms of screen and battery life.

Who says they can't do more than 1024x600? Mine can. Just not on the built-in LCD panel.

Of course there are limits, but you can't compare a computer that fits in a handbag and consumes less than 10 watts with a graphics workstation.

On LCD of course can lah... want something to carry around and yet have better resolution. been checking all the latest UMPC Netbook, so far still don't have one that runs on Atom which can match HP2133 resolution yet.

Checked Benq and even the latest HP1000 screen resolution is lower.

Yup nice but screen size still 1024x600...

The 1024x600 display on my netbook translates to about 135 ppi. You have to look really close to see the pixels. Any more, and you'd need a magnifying glass.

It seems to me that what you really want is a not a netbook, but a conventional laptop.

I was looking around for a netbook and wanted to go check out Dell. But can't imagine that it has problem even running ms office

Thanks for the tip, I will check on resolution when I go check out the netbooks.
But doesnt Photoshop run very slowly on HP2133?
HP2133 really heats up fast

It's acceptable when you boot it up on XP, heat still an issue, that is why I am looking for another Netbook.

I don't use it for PP only occassionally when I needed to or have spare time when travelling or when my wife can't wait to see results instead of when we are back home.

I think you don't get my grouse... 1024x600 cannot load Photoshop. I don't need a laptop to lug around when travelling, that much I do know.

If the problem is with photoshop, have you considered another software? E.g., the gimp should work (and there are also nice raw converter plugins for it).

But have also other Video software that needs at least 1200x768 I think Sony Vegas, Ulead as well.

Have not tried Gimp but Nikon Caopture also cannot, looks like these softwares require better resolution to run. Can increase the screen size but then it will be alot of scrolling.

Still searching for the UMPC that can handle better resolution and less heat but would still need a sub 10" size.
