Is it possible to order lenses directly from Shriro?

My Goodness... Poison. May I know where you got your Silver-rimmed UV filter? I heard there's a revision for the number of bearings in the focus ring for the 77 from 2 to 3. Have you any idea of it? Thanks.

It's hard to get all three in Silver color brand new nowadays. I think Pentax only make them in black now :dunno:

I had three black ones, but changed to these beautiful silver ones sometime last year:

All new FA Limiteds come w/ black synthetic leather pouches now, instead of those colorful real leather ones in the above photos ;)

FW, you very the poisoness leh. haha . . Nice lenses.

Well, they are beautiful lenses, deserved to be shown off a bit ;) Actually I don't use these lenses much nowadays, mostly only use a zoom (FA*28-70/2.8). Guess I've become quite lazy w/ this lens mounted :D

I got the original Pentax silver UV filters along w/ the lenses when I bought them. They are hard to find, and quite costly when you find them.

It's the first time I ever heard the revision of FA77 lens on its focusing ring ... but I don't think it's a big deal anyway. All of these lenses are beautiful and perform very well no matter they are earlier versions (like mine) or later version :)

Haha, I guess Shriro and Pentax should reward me since I've got quite a number of users converted to Pentaxians and Limited lenses owners :bsmilie:

Yes, they should. you are a great Pextax guy. Luckily i never left Pextax for another brand.

Me too. I'll be a Pentaxian for life.

Fengwei, what's your take between the black and silver variants (or what made you took the trouble of changing from black to silver)? I have seen numerous pictures of the silver ones but each pic gives a slightly different texture and hue and I have never seen the real thing. Ur 77 seems like its got a reddish cast compared to the other two. Is the silver color consistent between different batches? Shashinki can't get hold of the silver one and I think I may just want to go with the black ones. Once they EOL, which would fetch a higher value (not that I would sell them off)? Thanks! Still waiting for Shriro's reply...

dun think they will EOL so soon la... ppl like you still buying :bsmilie:

silver and black same lens la... i have the silver 43mm, just happen to get it locally.. the rest are black... its better to have all the same color cos it look weird but i gaffer them all black to no difference :bsmilie: unless i can find somebody to exchange then i just live with it...

why silver ?
1) more rare
2) more cool
3) more resistance to paint peel/scratches if im correct, i could be wrong

Doesn't mean black is no good, the built quality is superb and unmatched, if you take good care of it, i think its appearance will still be good 20 yrs down the road...

silver dun make better photos than black and vice versa...

there is a silver 77mm on sale a few days back, and there is a black 77mm also on sale, price is very good why still wait for shriro ?

Remember Deng Xiaoping's famous quote:
"It doesn't matter if a cat is black or white, as long as it catches mice."

What's the point of being a collector? Gear is supposed to be used. Functionally speaking, there is no difference between silver or black. Personally I prefer the black versions, easier to blend with a black body, but that's just me.

Perhaps you didn't know that black FA Limiteds were priced higher than the silver ones not too long ago?

Second flowerpot's advice, there's two great deals on the FA 77mm in the B&S. If I didn't already have mine, I'd grab it. Who cares about the colour when there is money to be saved.

My silver ones are pure silver. The slight red color is due to WB. As flowerpot and creampuff said above, it's not really a big deal to get either color. I used to like black ones 'cause they match black camera bodies better. But I changed my preference and wanted them in silver. The other reason is because the paint loss on the barrel, this happens more often and easier to the black versions. All the three silver FA LE lenses I'm having now are from earlier productions (smaller numbers), and they still look like new after these years. But some black ones I saw already had some paint loss and scratches on the barrel even after less than one year of usage.

And I don't think these lenses will become EOL anytime soon. They are still selling like hot cakes, Pentax isn't that stupid to stop making them :)

As to which color to get, its just a matter of personal taste. But I do agree it's better to have them all in one color, so they look better when put together

Why not get one of the FA77 from the B&S forum? These lenses are built to last, you won't see much difference from a used one to a brand new one, and you'd save at least 100 to 200 if buying a slightly used one. If you can't buy them all in one go, why not just buy them one by one? There is a great deal on the silver FA31 from eBay (seller: prodigi2000).

Hi all, thanks for all the advice. Will take note. Really appreciate your advices. Thanks!

But hor, famous lenses like the 85/1.4 also EOL thou everyone wants them. Same for the voitglander 125/2.5 macro. So i think it has more to do than just pure demand. I heard rumours that Pentax will close down the Japan factory. Perhaps shift them to vietnam to cut cost. Probably we'll have Made in Vietnam FA limiteds in future. Just speculation...

Pentax discontinued quite a lot of lenses in the FA line some years back at a time when the overall market for film cameras had disappeared in favour of digital. Many of the Pentax film cameras were then were pretty crappy and if your camera bodies aren't selling, you can bet that a lot of lenses weren't moving back then.

The Voigtlander 125mm had been on sale for quite awhile. All the hoopla surrounding it happened when Cosina decided to discontinue it and after it took a long time for people to discover what a fantastic lens it was optically. By then Cosina was contracted to produce lenses for Zeiss.

Please don't flame me for being a show-off cos I really can't help it.
The FA77 is no doubt the soul lens of Pentax - so beautifully crafted, it hurts...
Flowerpot, I am experiencing magic!!!

Oh my god... you have the DA 70 and the FA 77? You are sticking to both? Collection of all Limiteds?

Yeah, intend to collect all Limiteds - that's the only cure for my LBA.

Congrats bro. I'm sure you'd love these.

Thanks, Fengwei, hope i can get them all soon. The FA limiteds are just so exquisitely crafted. The metal used is slightly heavier and tougher than those from the DA limiteds.
The feel of the density of the glass in your hands is a joy! Even wide open, the central sharpness of the 77 is awesome! A perfect half-body to head-shot portrait lens!
