anyone knows what's the best way to get there? i know one way is to take a flight to bangkok and then transfer to their national carrier druk air...website is giving me some problems though...would anyone know how much it would cost in total?

hi flight cost about US$ 700++ but u must secure visa before u can buy or even board the plane. In case u don't know-Bhutan charges a daily tariff of US$200 for 3 pax or more but that incl. ALL meals,Accomm, transport, entrance fees, guide, etc. Log on to www.bootan.com or google bhutan for more info

I think the Tax is US$200~250 per person per day.
It is snowing now, bring the correct clothing.
Also there is hail stone at this time.

is there any reason for the tax...this is quite unusual..never heard of people being taxed for staying in a country before

They control the number of visitors per year. I think the reason could be conservationism and protectionism...As you know human is very disruptive.
There is only two flights into Bhutan per week and the sitting capacity is 100+ only. So you can count the number of visitor per year.
Tourism is not their major source of income. They make money by selling hydroelectricity to India.

Your $250 tax includes a guide; a Cook, a horseman and the seven horses to carry your stuff. :D

darn..okay sure sounds interesting and i'll definitely have to go there someday..but wasn't exactly what i had in mind this time round..was looking for somewhere free and easy to travel like Laos

My friend just went and came back......few days ago.

All he can say is.............YOU WILL NEVER REGRET GOING THERE......one of the most beautiful places on Mother Earth. If my guess is not wrong, you can't really use your mobile as there are no signals at all unless you have a satellite phone.

Yeap USD$200 per day MUST be spent.....(that amount is partly your accomodation, food and so on).

Don't give the children food or money.....just give them a pencil......and you will be surprise what their respond is.

It's good to have a tour guide as it's way way more convienient to go around town. Be prepared to walk.

Hmm....what else.....oh don't forget your most important equipment.....your CAMERA!!!!

wahh... oh man... i think this time is out for me.....looking for budget/rough it out/explore adventure travels..bhutan definitely is going on my to do list before i die..but think i'll have to post pone it for awhile...thanks alot to those who replied! now i need to pimp myself :(

its us$250 per day from 2009 onwards
