Another proof that the world is round

erm sucks...

My friend,

Firstly, its best to be abit more polite as a newbie to this forum. Then everybody will enjoy your stay here.

This is an abstract sections and I can do it to my taste although you may not like it at all.
I didn't ask for any c&c. But even if I did ask, I think you can use more refine English in a nice negative way. If you don't like it, you can either jump to the next thread or can always suggest or contribute in a constructive way. By using such word, that's not the way to make friends here I'm afraid.

I excuse you for immature and lacking vacabulary.

the pic didn't work for me either..

but  for your comments to poondq..

My friend,

I think you meant vocabulary right?

Seriously, nothing wrong with a newbie posting a comment and he went straight to the point.
Nothing best describe the photo as i'm as well unable to comprehend what it has to do with the "World tallest" and "world is round" as composed.

I'm sure you are more mature to take comment.

agreed. I doubt you'll like it if people said "sucks" posted photos..

Thanks for dropping by.

1) The UOB is never that tall. It was PP to stretch upwards.
2) The pic wasn't taken with a fisheye lens. A fisheye lens will be convex. I used PP to revert like a chimney stack (concave). Same time, foregrd becomes obviously round. A normal pic taken with a fisheye will not look like that.

I tweaked it to look abstract though it appears its not to majority taste.

Back to my reply to the newbie. i disagree that there is nothing wrong though i not overly sensitive. There are many ways to address if one doesn't like it. Eg - "it doesn't work for me", or "I don't like it because of ....." or "compo is out" or "I can't quite get it". Not sucks no matter how urgly a photo is. Such comments will certainly dishearten another newbie. I'm a member of many other overseas forum and those angmoh comments are never so crude, no matter how straight to the point they wanted. I think we have to observe some decorum in the forum, more so this is a place to make friends.

hmm i find it highly suspicious that your first posting would be here and as such. But that might be me. I dont think it has anything to do with being "more mature to take comment" as i dont even classify "erm sucks" as a comment. It's more like an in your face kind of thing. Not appropriate. Like TS stated there are other ways to comment. :thumbsd:

You registered just to post this?

Anyway, since this is under abstract.. I can understand where the TS is coming from with his picture.. But it's also of no use for someone to come in and give a one liner which doesn't help anyone.. That's not going straight to the point. That's rather pointless actually..

Well, there is nothing wrong if he substantiated why it "sucks", which he did not.
Welcome to CS, if you are new.

psyk1, does it matter if i register to post this? i have registered as a newbie partly due to the nature of the TS who seemingly think that newbie has to be governed by a set rule of conduct , behaviour even to the extend of way a newbie should write.

ahbian, thanks for the warm welcome. The TS started a 1 liner photo post which neither describe his composition nor the picture speaks for itself. It's only fair he gets back a 1 liner comment.

if we take 'sucks' at face value it might sound crude, but it could also be just "i just don't like it". How often do we hear people commenting "this movie sucks"?

Seriously before the TS started his explanation of how the photo was derived and how the concept was to be, i could not think of any better way to comment.

This goes to show you are equally ignorant about forum decorum. I shall also excuse you as a newbie too, probably even having no idea to public behaviour protocol. I'm just not about the person to regulating how newbie should behave, its just about manners in the cyberspace, and in life. It doesn't mean no show of face can just blar out whichever way you deem fit. However, I'm not taken in by this suck words. My status of photography is bigger than this mere words. Its just point blank and demeaning and its best not to repeat on others. His just age 15 (excusable), but I'm sure your're better thinker.

Its my prerogative to post a photo with or without commentaries. In my opinion, the picture speaks for itself. You just don't get it. I can always postpone my clarification until someone ask. But judging from a few replies, it appears my picture lacks the story. But these people (unlike poondq and now yourself) do not lack manners in seeking the meaning of the picture.

if we take 'sucks' at face value it might sound crude, but it could also be just "i just don't like it". How often do we hear people commenting "this movie sucks"?

You can home in a point in many ways without needing to say the most obvious if you are not lacking in vocab or gramma. I don't need to be your English teacher. "This movie sucks" is out of context here.

Seriously before the TS started his explanation of how the photo was derived and how the concept was to be, i could not think of any better way to comment.

No one force you to comment. So it appears you have no qualms using "sucks" on others. You can by all means carry on your uncultured way since you are sinking in with poondq. The take is yours.

My friend, get a life and don't over indulge yourself as so self righteous over this argument. I have no wish to continue a meaningless protracted text with you. My case stop here with you.

Ehh ... I'm lost on this pict. :dunno:

Can help to articulate the idea behind the thing ?

There are better and more constructive ways to comment than a plain "erm sucks."
Basically, as good as not giving any comment.

maybe the newbie, can further elaborate how he thought the picture sucked, and which technical aspect of it is lacking, and the ways and means the TS can do to improve on the said image.

I think these points are worth considering, and if anyone makes the effort to type a one liner like "erm it sucks" with no way to substantiate himself, it its best for the person to shut up and be on his way, because he simply isn't contributing to the thread in any way.

Haha...Chill out guys! To each it's own. Different people see things differently. Anyway, nice pic. But wouldn't the buildings be bending outwards instead of inwards when you say that the world is round? Just a thought. :)

I beg differ.
"it sucks" gives alot of opinion. He doesn't not need to substantiate himself.
It's an opinion.
By commenting, it's way more contribution than asking for the intepretation.

1) asking for intepretation may imply that the picture is worth a 2nd look.
2) By saying it sucks, it already tells the TS that it's meaningless, can't be intepreted, not worth a 2nd look.

I think the TS is simply unable to take negative comments.

Being newbie is the same as being an old bird, unless of course someone wishes to point out exactly how the opinion of a newbie differs from that of an old bird.

I believe while you didn't exactly ask for C&C, the "newbie" didn't ask to make friends.

Since you want to understand comments more:
The photo looks like rubbish
a) UOB plaza? How to tell. Is there any meaning behind it at all?
Not that tall? why not? are there comparable landmarks around to tell that it's not that tall?
b) What world?
c) Round? what thing is round? What's the proof?
d) Composition is.. non existant.

Looking at your explanation:
I don't get why "Same time, foregrd becomes obviously round"
It would appear that someone doesn't have a firm grasp of physics, and I really don't think it's me. At least the only description I can think for it is abstract, short of calling it a bad piece of photoshop work..

I personally find it rather nice and refreshing, almost thot its taken in some foreign country. All the Hoo-Ha over the 2nd post, its not worth the energy.

There are people who comment that it sucks, and there are people who explains why it sucks. I just feel that we will learn better from the latter.
