Lightsphere Diffuser~

Hi all, I'm not asking what or which is good in this thread, i wanna know if anyone here uses a LS diffuser, how and what setting you do to give you a very nice effect, try looking online but i can't find any good web, and how do you aim when u take a outdoor pictures? how close do you go near the subjects? Please share your POV and techniques, thanks alot!

p.s. any pro strobist here can enlighten me? haha... is there a strobist gathering on sharing lightnings technique?

I'm guessing people'll just say, "test yourself", "No setting fits all" and other canned replies. But it's true though because situations differ greatly. I think Kongo uses one, on this latest Lynnie gallery, which is outdoors. Maybe you can PM him.

Hey TJ! thanks for the info, just wanna listen to what the pros have gt to say here, but it seems like is not working at all, no ones here share what they know or lazy to reply to my crap question, and you are right, most pple here will say, "pls use the search function and look for it"...lol, anyway, hope to shoot with you again! ;p

i believe that for outdoor shoots, they will put the cap on the LS and point it directly at subject...it will still give a nice diffused effect hope this helps you..

Outdoors, point forward shoot with cup. Indoors, cloud LS shoot within 5m of subject drains battery quite a lot, clear LS more power. I don't see why anyone (even pros) would want to have light go all around the room though. I placed my order for the lambency just to test.

The thing about the LS is that light goes all 360* all over the place, so really you have no control. That means that if the walls nearby are a different color, not all of your light will be white.

And also, why have light go behind and into a different colored wall when you're photographing someone infront?

my friend modified it by placing a reflective material in the "back" so that the light will not go behind but rather bounce forward as well

That's similar to the chrome dome. And with that being said, why wouldn't a demb flip it be any different? Since your friend lined the back with reflective material, no light will go behind. There's a diffuser, and a slight bounce, and a top cap. Demb flipit! has the same concept.

the LS is only good for closeups because the dome effectively loses quite a fair bit of power after diffusion if u use it outdoors. best paired with a fast prime just to lighten up the shadow areas.

i use ETTL when i using on-camera flash. i hardly use my LS actually because i prefer bouncing it instead.

lol well thats true...which is what im using now ;D gotta say TS..you shud consider getting the demb flip it...tried it and loved it....the reach of the bounce is really great especially with jumbo...

If you recall from our shoot, airforce guy was using a Flipit, so you can ask him about the results.

That's my next buy~ :thumbsup: but will anyone bring a strobe setup outdoor? saw a lot of video on outdoor shoot with strobe setting, and the effects are damn cool~

He means bouncing off a bounce card, and yes, if you have a LS or no attachment, bouncing is done indoors.

No one can tell you how fast is fast etc. What flipfreak means is that the light when coming out of the top cap is very very very diffused and softened. Good for closeup portraits outdoors, bad for batteries.

And where can one get this Demb Flip-It?
With the exception of from the website itself and ebay.

I modified my demb flip it by pasting foam sheets on it. The same material that people use to make ABBT. I think the matte surface did reduce the harshness further abit.
Mine is the pro only. Is the jumbo alot better? Looks like i'll try pasting bigger foam sheet to try out hehe.
