hi all, know tripod's issues has been discussed many times before. but i would like to be more specific for my gears : 450d with 18-55 kit,10-22, 70-200 f4 is. want a gitzo for travellin as i do so very frequent. so light and compact is crucial for me and also able to take the weight of my gears. gt1550 good enough? any opinion on gitzo ballhead?
thanx in advance ;p

I would recommend the GT1541T. very light and compact. It is the traveller series and cheaper than 1550. the load is 6kg compared to 1550, 3kg (if i remember correctly). Don't think the 1550 is suitable or stable enough to hold your 70-200F4.

Ballhead, you can get the benro B-1(12kg) or the markins Q3 (30kg). Of cos the markins is more expensive but you will nv need to upgrade this ball head.

thanx shuttle ;p
any experience with the gitzo ballhead? wonder if its lighter compared marhins q3.

Hi all,

Any recommendation what tripod to recommend for travelling which is not expensive and light to carry overseas??

a) Please do not hijack other people's thread.
b) Please search for similar posts (also in Newbies Corner).
The same question has been asked just recently, check for the threads. If there are any questions left we will gladly help you.

anyone with gt1541t experience and care to share?
me new to photography. but would like to get the best one and that's it - don wanna keep upgrading in the future :)

you might want to check the max height with and without centre column raised. Unless you're vertically challenged or of an 'average height', then you might want to bother. Tall people hate stooping down, especially to take photos on a short tripod multiple times during holiday. Personal experience.

for Ballhead, I was just like u for ballhead, after reading CS, not much recommendation for Gitzo BH.

markins do recieve a lot of good remarks. now I am using Markins M10:thumbsup:

which Gitzo Ballhead u r referring to?

IIRC, Gitzo only offer up to 14KG , Q3 30KG load capacity. true enough, we may not need such a heavy capacity, but to me, the more capacity the merrier.

Gitzo Centre Ballhead 300 plus gm 14KG load cost ard $450 (iirc) vs Markins Q3 30KG ard $450 300 plus gm

otherwise Arca-swiss Z1 (60KG) really can't sell at the price.

i am using the velbon CF 640 tripod. Not as light as the Gitzo, at 1.35kg compared to Gitzo about 1kg.

I bought it 2nd hand at $270, i think new one cost $390++. Gitzo 1541T cost about $800++.

As for the ballhead, i got a brand new Benro B-1 from one of the CSer at $150. I think it is about $190 in shops. this is quite a good ballhead and it is light too.. about 300gm ++..

Markins is more expensive at $450 plus the plate it will cost you more than $500.

If you have the budget, please go for the gitzo and markins. if not i think my setup is quite good and not that expensive.

thanx for the input and your time guys.
anymore inputs are very welcome too :)

buying markins or arca-swiss or gitzo ballhead doesnt mean you have to go back to their plate.

I got my Markins M10 with Benro plate. and it works!!! Markins plate ard $80 vs Benro plate <$50

btw I think most of the brand come with a standard plate if I am not wrong. Oli Markins doesnt:cry:

do consider kangrinpoche as well, good load capacity, light and free standard plate and abt 100 buck cheaper then markins.

My first tripod is the SLIK Pressman which i bought 16 years ago and it is still working.

I just got my 2nd tripod which is the Manfrotto 190CXPRO3 190 MAG FIBER TRIPOD 3 SCT with a 486RC2 COMPACT BALL HEAD W/RC2 R.C.SY
