Reddish hue on Adobe LR 2

Do you guys experience any of this problem? When i open file with LR , alot of the "red tones" gets exaggerated , but when i view it from elements or window explorer, the colour appears to be normal. Am i setting something wrong? or does LR view photos with a different format?

Any help would be great! Thanks

oh. does the parts of the histogram that must be gray look brownish?

My experience was more on yellowish hue. I managed to fix this by checking my color management and found the profile is based on samsung something-something (my monitor). I changed this to adobe rgb and the colors is now normal. Maybe you can check your color management profile too.

hhmm.. it appears grey to me, somehow only the red tone are affected, the rest are okay. I dont really think it got to do with calibration of my monitor? cause even with wrong calibration is should be able to see the same tone with both window explorer and the LR .

I can see the same tone when i off the "colour management" on elements. So its kinda strange why LR2 sees it in a different colour. Even if i export directly from a LR's picture, the colour will appear different if i view with element/ windows.

Is there by any chance LR is colour managing by "ProPhoto rgb" at default? Please advice thanks!

For Windows it's in Settings - Control panel - Display - Settings - Advanced - Colour Management. LR2 uses the colour profile that is set there. Delete any standard profile or monitor vendor profile.
Calibrating your monitor is the only way to get correct colours.

unfortunately that's not how it works. As you can see from the KB article itself, only photo gallery is affected. In my case, Picture viewer was affected which I ignored since i don't use it anyway, PS CS3 worked fine, GIMP worked fine, LR was affected.

deleting the profile worked.

estel si right... and for your question.. LR2 uses the "default" profile in your Color Management screen (follow Octarine's instruction). In my case, there was only 1 profile and it was set by my Samsung. So in this case DON'T delete it first.

In Vista, there are 3 tabs. This is the leftmost tab and you can't add profile. Go to the 3rd (or right-most) tab, and add a profile. The best compatible profile I found is adobe rgb 1998. Add that, and now go back to the left-most tab. I can now see 2 profile with Samsung as default. I set Adobe as default and deleted samsung.

I cannot tell you what to do because I did it on gut instinct so no guarantee. For safe experiment, maybe you can also do that without deleting the current profile, just change the default to adobe.

And finally, if you are scared to try.. check the color management and post what you see here. That way, many can advice if adobe can recognize the profile or not.

Hey i did it. Guess what? It worked! Thanks a million. My computer set the default on the lousy calibrator that i used -.- Feeling so scammed. I got it off funan, I was desperately looking for calibrator then i but i cant seem to find any at funan, then i saw this " Gretagmacbeth Display Calibrator" saw its kinda cheap "49" so decided to give it a try -.-
Who knows the colour turn out super warmish, then i guess it was then when my colour profile auto updated to that "mis calibrated" profile, although i disabled it. Who knows LR still reads from it =x.

Hope i can go down and exchange -.- but i fear its hard.

Why do you select an Adobe RGB profile? Does your hardware support it? For most of us mortal picture geeks the sRGB colour space is sufficient and fine.

yeah.. thats what I chose.. isn't srgb 1998 from adobe? I thought this is kind of a standard? So far it worked for me so I think it is supported. I'm not that familiar with the geekterms that is why I just shared my experience and avoided any direct advice.

* I just peeked into the rockwell page.. didn't know there were 2 types... anyway.. I don't print so I am not affected with color mismatch thing. But just to clarify for the rest, I selected the sRGB.

** I just checked the difference.. and I think I did use Adobe RGB 1998. And export to jpeg for small website jpeg version as sRGB. Hehe.. confused there... but as mentioned, I don't print so it is not an issue for me which rgb I used as long as it seems normal compared to very yellowish as before.

Good for you.. I had that problem for months and thought LR was lousy and stick to PS.. until lately I wonder why people still like LR and maybe something else was wrong and try here and there and manage to fix mine. I know the frustrating feeling. :thumbsup:

Yea. super frustrated. Seeing different colour on the same file! LOL halted all proccessing while i was figuring it out

And I like LR's Workflow like 100x better than PS. Cause its much faster and has more photographer friendly functions. With PS everytime when i come back with few hundreds photo i will like omg... :bsmilie:

Btw im not saying that PS is inferior, im just an amatuer am open to advices! Just that i think PS is more for graphic design or extreme effects, while more me, im just a photographer

sRGB is not Adobe RGB 1998. sRGB was not developed by Adobe.
LR2 can work in 3 colour spaces but without the right knowledge and equipment only sRGB makes sense to use.
Your camera is set to sRGB by default so it's perfectly ok to stick to that colour space through the whole workflow with LR2. For editing and printing the proper calibration is more mission-critical

Gotcha.. but now that its working, I dare not change anything anymore. I had enough of playing with the damn profile.
