k200d battery life?

Hi,

i was looking for my first dslr...and i saw pentax k200d which looks good for a beginner for me..just wondering is the battery life good?

I had bad experience with my 1st pns using AA battery...can only take 100 shots...

Not an owner but i thk it can last easily >500 shots on normal engerizer AAs.

you used alkaline? or eveready black cat?

for digital cameras, even for k100d/k200d you will get very little mileage with that sort of battery. you either need rechargeable NiMHs - i suggest sanyo eneloops with maha powerex charger combination, they retain charge for a longer time and so far good experience with them. can try imedions, but the response is more mixed.

based on paper, using the other alternative, lithium-ion (single use) can give you 1100 shots (if i don't remember wrong) on the k200d. if you use flash, maybe less. but definitely near 1000 is going to be right, the ratings are usually quite accurate.

yup....lithiums can get more than 1100 shots actually. Since the originals that came with my K200D were depleted, I have reverted back to Eneloops and they work fine.

sanyo 2100 (the old one not eneloop..that time not out yet)....i have never used alkaline or eveready black cat......

does your sanyo batteries retain their charge for at least a week? If not you may need to get it replaced with new ones. Some batches of the 2500 were prone to accelerated self-discharge. I had 8 of these and replaced them at the agent. But now using eneloops

they dont retain charge well at all.... but that was few years back..

Go and buy a couple sets of Energizer Lithium AA, and you are ready to shoot for about a year (4000 shots!). I think 4 Lithium AA can easily take 1500 to 2000 shots w/ the K200D ...

Eneloop's good... but the Energizers are incredible. Like Feng Wei said, I gone through the entire Japan tour, a couple of shoots in between July till Sept, before it finally went flat.
It's that good.

If you include the BG3, man.. I can only say, there's no way the k20D (even with Battery grip) will outlast the K200D in terms of battery life. My own experience period...

This is the last thing you will find fault with a PENTAX K200D.

glad to hear that cause i intend to buy it for my korea winter trip..the battery will not last well in such cold weather (sub zero)

used them on my compact camera last time, it lasted me 7months and 2 mountaineering trip (about 1500 pictures + some videos taken). tried and tested in cold/wet conditions, it beats all other batteries hands down. my other set of rechargeable nickel metal hydride AAs couldnt power on the camera, and another set of "normal" AAs lasted 8 shots @@

They work well. I can't comment on battery life though because I do not take that many shots except on holiday, so the camera more or less sits in the dry cabinet most of the time. All I know is each time I take it out to use, I still do not need to charge it!

The Energizer Lithium AAs are really great. My set of 4 lasted months in my Olympus SP560UZ. Still have not changed them yet. i also used the PowerEx 2700s on my flash woohoo . . .
