DX Cam Use FX Lens

Hi , can some one help me if my camera is DX format and i get one FX lens how should i know the 'F' stop increase by how much and wats the format to calculated

Aperture will not change. Only the effective focal length. I am assuming you are using Nikon DX camera. It would be focal length x 1.5.

Another adcantage is that you are using the centre of the lens something like the sweet spot

There is an advantage of using FX lenses on DX camera bodies, and it is that you are using the sweet spot of the lens (the center portion). If you use a DX lens on a DX camera, you may (on some lenses) get some viginetting (dark corners), but a FX lens on a DX body is using the center portion of the image.

Another advantage is the crop factor (of 1.5 for Nikon). So a 200mm lens is actuall 300mm.

The down side of a DX body is that you would not be able to go as wide for wideangle lenses (because of the crop factor) as FX bodies.

Sorry, I newbie leh, when you say only FOV and not magnification, do you mean at eg 200mm, even though it will look like what you see in a 300mm lens, but it will not magnify as much as a 300mm lens? :dunno: Me very confused. :sweat:

You're almost right.

200mm lens on DX cam, will give a field of view that is the same as 300mm lens on FX.
But in terms of magnification, 200mm on DX is just the same as 200mm lens on FX.

yep as gymak90 said, you see the same area of picture, but the image is not as magnified as if you were using a 300mm lens.
