When purchasing 2nd bodies, what are the important and minute things to watch out for?

Check for any unexpected physical dings or other defects (if not already described by seller) , press all the buttons to ensure they are responsive, and i guess after that its all down to luck lor :D

Are you asking about...

1. Getting a 2nd body (i.e. have another camera body)
2. Getting a 2nd hand body (i.e. getting a used camera body)?

The 2 responses you have so far are different, and one is about #1 and the other is about #2 :)

firstly, whether the camera works.

physical defects that have been mentioned, have not been mentioned, whether you accept them

corrosion on the metallic ends, i.e. battery connections, plugs

shutter count so that you know how far (roughly, no one can give you exact shutter life) you are to a replacement being due

but frankly speaking, there are some things that you cannot tell.. so if you do not want to take the risk, just buy first hand. not all sellers are reasonable and some even seek to deceive. caveat emptor.
