Hi all,

Currently, I am using the D300 and have the Nikon 18-200VR and 50 F/1.4

Recently, I am thinking of replacing my 18-200 with Tamron 17-50mm F/2.8 and Nikon 55-200mm F/4-5.6G VR. Reason being I like to take photos without flashlight and the Tamron with F/2.8 helps in this case; while the Nikon 55-200 will take care of my long range.

Alternatively, I will sell the 18-200 and get the Tamron only and may get the Nikon 105VR in the future because I may want to venture into marco. However, I lost the 200mm reach.

Any suggestions or advice are appreciated.

I have the same lens with D200 and I wondered exactly the same thing. But I dont know what "tele end" is. If that means did I zoom the lens to its full length, then yes, I have often done that!

I used to own the 18-200 VR lens, which was the 1st lens I bought after buying a kit. The 18-200 was versatile, and produce decent pics... but what it lacked was the wider aperture benefits... so I decided to sell my 18-200 and bought a Tamron 17-50 with no regrets at all! The Tamron 17-50 is 1/3 the price of the Nikon 17-55 with as good a picture quality. The Tamron 17-50 became the lens I used most of the time.

I did think about the tele end up to 200mm, and the ideal lens would be the Nikon 70-200, but that was priced outside my range... so after doing research, I went with the Nikon 80-200 f/2.8D one touch (which you can get for about $700 2nd hand), and no regrets too! The pic quality was great. I do not use teles as much as the 17-50.

Even though I have a few primes, the lenses I use most often are Tokina 12-24 and Tamron 17-50.
