In our modern culture money seems to be the only purpose and value in life.
However there may be others who declare that money is the source to whatever
you want and to happiness and prosperity.

1. What then are the values beneath money?

2. Describe whatever is in your mind that money cannot buy.

3. What do you want money to do for you?

At the moment...

air

Quite a good start and to sum up the responses:

One thing that money cannot buy -

1. Air - zac08
2. Love - sion
3 Enemies - zero o
4. Age - sbs99
5. Clubsnap membership - zero o
6. Character of a person - forward

Just add on the list above and later we can discuss the issues further.
There is this popular saying that money is the root to all evil and in many places
people worship nothing but money.

:)

Real Happiness.......(its kind of a mindset, and a 'giving Love' is I think part or a result of it)

Not the shortlived 'happiness' you get when having the latest camera or lens, thats just fast eroding once you have the item.

'Clubsnap Membership' still need money to by a computer :)

Your question is already contradicting in itself...... anything you need to buy - there must be a trade-in. Even the air is not free. We have 'fresh' air is because of control measures put in place to ensure quality air and this cost money.

Just remember one thing "NOTHING IS FREE"...... otherwise, you will end up like the old folks who get cheated out of their savings. If its free...... its too good liao......

You dont need money to buy ENEMIES :)

You must have done something to make that enemy..... and it would have taken time to do that something..... so there is still a trade off and money is involve.... therefore its not free.

There is a small hotel in Geylang with a hand-written wooden sign that says:

Free Relaxation! :bsmilie: :bsmilie:

The question is not, what needs no money, but, can there be no need for money?

There are lots of stuff that you dont need to "buy", and thus, needs no "money", and as mentioned, air, love, sunlight, bad pictures on Clubsnap asking for free critiques, etc etc

Today economics, or specifically Capitalism, is about the efficient distribution of resources through the market mechanism, even in so-called Communist China, and also specifically through the medium of Money.

Also economics theories say the market is self-regulating, and that is why it is so anathema amongst the more purists Americans to even think of regulation and even less a bail out package - it is "unAmerican" one of them said. But a bail out they did. (Does this tell you something?)

So is the alternative to Capitalism and the use of Money as the medium of trade, Communism, whatever Communism is? (or Socialism as some of the American politicians put it.)

But for as long as there is an exchange, Money facilitates this. (Imagine you take photos of the vege seller in the market everyday to exchange for vege.) It is almost certain we cannot go back to the days of barter, can we? So then does it mean that to do away with money we must also do away with exchange? Is that possible?

For as long as there is exchange there is buy and sell. Free is when there is no exchange. You give without returns - if any they are bonuses - you take without any incurring obligations, like IOUs. Democracy is not free: it is an exchange: your rights in exchange for your obligations, eg NS, keep within OB markers, dun antagonise and dun bash some unmentionable unreasonable ugly people, etc etc.

Or as long as money remains the facilitator of exchange it is OK, but it is when Money becomes a goods of its own, or Money becoming an ends in itself - eg I dun care what I buy and sell as long as I have a profit - then it lead to where we are now.

(Even the milk scandal is arguably traceable to such an attitude - as long as make money all is justified; and if there is problem, there is no problem too big that Money cannot buy you out of trouble.)

Oops I forgot, this is Clubsnap, not an economics forum. Sorry, OT. Bye.

Perhaps a healthy economic is what every country needs while in preparation of the adoption of modern culture, but does it requires money for its achievement otherwise is it a healthy brain or both to be more accurate?
