hey guys! sorry for posting another new thread. but these questions differ from the P filter question i asked earlier. anw...

-Arctic Butterfly. I was recommended this product for cleaning my sensor. True, it was flexible and easy to use without usage of any chemical products. but it's expensive (to me)! $300+ from CP. they still persuaded me to buy the Sensor Loupe which costs around $300+ too... :( was wondering, are there any cheaper alternatives to clean your sensor?

-HOYA CPL filter. bought this yesterday, tried today. i saw posts saying that if you rotate the filter when attached to the lens, the effect will be visible. i tried mine, i rotated and saw no effect through my VF. i thought it was trial and error. so i rotated different directions and took a couple of pictures, seems like the effect is still the same. blown out highlights from sky. like what many have said, isn't the effect supposed to be visible when rotating? correct me if i'm wrong. did i bought a faulty CPL filter?

anw, thanks for helping!

For sensor cleaning unless you know what you are doing, just go to ur service center to get it clean. Should be quite cheap.

CPL, depending on the angle of the sun, it may or may not have any result. One way to test is to aim at a glass glare and rotate.

hi there. thanks for replying :)
i just tried aiming at a glass glare and rotate, and yes! the effect was visible. but it didnt manage to eliminate the glare totally. is it normal?

Maybe it depend on the angle. I dun have a CPL so no idea :X

ok. thanks for helping though :)

anyone can give any advice here? :dunno:

On the CPL?

yeah, you reduce the effects of the glare.

You wanna totally cut off the glare, try another angle.

ok, so i can conclude that, if i'm able to cut off any glare from any one angle, my CPL is working fine right?

1) i had the artic butterfly. after a while you realise that it's quite a so-so product. most of the dust that cannot be removed by simple blower + in-cam dust removal vibration is WELDED dust. which the artic butterfly cannot solve. and the brush gets very dirty very fast. you end up getting very frustrated very fast because it gets very ineffective after a while. then you have to clean it.. and then the bristles keep getting bent, etc. note that i'm not talkign about a few weeks' span, more like a few months. even then.. for something that costs so much.. i suggest you save your money to get sensor swabs/pec pads and sensor solution. wet cleaning + blower + in-cam dust removal will do the job more effectively than artic butterfly added in.

2) cpl defininitely works. if the sky is too bright, you cpl 8000 years also will not solve blown highlights problem, it will help a little, but not *that* much. which is why many landscape photographers use a cpl/gnd combination.

quite a so-so product huh? now I'm beginning to wonder whether to purchase... but I've always been afraid to do wet cleaning on my sensor. :( understanding that you always travel around, i doubt you send in to Pentax now and then for cleaning and instead DIY? do you recommend any products?

and, thanks for clarifying! ;)

i diy all the time. charges and having to go down is not really my cup of tea.. much cheaper to do it myself.

photographic solutions (eclipse/sensor swab/pec pads) has worked for me so far. i might switch back to using high quality cotton buds (do this at your own risk, but so far it's been alright for me).. and sensor solution.. find it much easier to control and less risk. not really that used to having to tie pec pads onto the sensor swab stick. :dunno:

there is a method to do this properly.. a former member here used to detail it but i'm not sure if the thread is still around. be very careful and confident when cleaning.. so long as you meet these 2 criteria, wet cleaning is actually pretty safe and very effective. of course it is more ley chey than simple blowing + dust removal in-cam.. so try these first, if cannot then use wet cleaning.

haha! ley chey! ;p
i'll go ask around about wet cleaning.
and meanwhile will do a search on the thread. well, if not, google :)
thanks alot bro! ;)
appreciate all these help!

wha! thanks thanks! i was still searching the forum for it -.- ;)

There is a copy somewhere on the forum, teaching how to use the original swab, but this one linked on the frontpage, so easier.

If you need to know how to use the original (i.e. $$$) piece, then their own webbie should have. :)

yeah! thanks alot! :D

for CPL. If you wanna see effects when pointing at the sky like you said. Blown out skies cannot.

but you know those days when the skies are really really clean blue and with really white and detailed clouds? You will get your result there really easily. Sky will be darken slightly when u turn the CPL.
