F1 with the A200 - Tamron 17-50mm or Sony 18-250mm?

Hey all,

Will be dropping by the F1 this weekend with Walkabout tix. Which would make better photos? The Tamron 17-50mm f2.8 or Sony 18-250mm f3.5-6.3 ?

bring the wide-angle to capture atmosphere shots. u would need an f2.8 tele to capture the cars....even so the shutter speed was still too low sometimes...

Thanks for the quick replies. Forgot to mention that I have the 18-70mm f3.5-6.3 kit lens. Looks like the vote is 1-1 for each lens.

You'd need shutter speeds of at least 1/1000s, and you'll need reach to blur out the wire mesh, and also a large aperture to achieve that kind of shutter speeds.

As much as they say it, the lights are NOT as bright as daylight. Gunbucker (whose post I've linked to above) shot at ISO 1600.

Honestly, I doubt you'd be getting very good images with either lens. You can try, but I feel that more than that, you should just go and enjoy the race, atmosphere and all.

yah.. i had to use iso 3200.. juz to get like 1/400 with my f5.6 lens.. would be gd if u can get a long f2.8 lens...

Unless you can get very near with the 17-50, if not, it'll be tough. You can forget about the 18-250 cos it's too slow.

Bro, u can use your 18-250 with A200.
I used my A100 with Beercan (70-210f4) with some setting F5.6, 1/40 :sweat: and I think can still get some good tries.

Not nearly enough reach. Nowhere close.

If you are shooting atmosphere (wide angle shots) you won't even be needing a fast lens. Remember your basics of depth of field?
