Hi everybody,

First of all I hope i'm at the right place...need some advice on buying DSLR camera. I am a real newbie and hope you can recommend me a DSLR camera. I have a budget of $1000 and please tell me where i can buy it with a reasonable price.

OK, besides the cam and lens, you have to factor in the cost for a dry cabinet and bag as well. Maybe you want to consider getting a 2nd hand cam instead.

Alternatively, you may want to consider the following:

Nikon D40 / D40x
Canon 1000D
Sony A200

There are many such threads - a search may help you figure out what others have agonized over. A used DSLR may be better bang for the buck.

A dry cabinet is a cabinet that controls the humidity inside. A low humidity (around 50%) helps prevent fungus from growing in your equipment (especially problematic with lenses).

Ok, do u have a lead for a 2nd hand camera and how much would they cost me. However for a new ones. where can i get them together with a dry cabinet that wd reach my budget of $1000.

Whats the diff between Nikon D40/40x and how bout nikon D60. How much wd the cameras and the dry cabinet cost me and where can i buy at reasonable price for new & 2nd hand cameras

Price of second hand ones differ base on model types / age / wear and tear / defects / shutter counts.

You can check out our marketplace on CS for more deals

Here is a list of shops in Singapore that many of us frequent ( linked from the Nikon pricelist )

wah... don't expect people to spoon-feed you with information leh. This topic (difference between D40/D40x/D60) has been discussed several times on this forum. There is also lots of information on dpreview.com and other photographic websites.
Try searching for 'dry cabinet price' or something simliar using the search function in CS website.
Try searching the classifieds under CS website to find a good bargain!

Just a little help and some suggestions,

Go scout for 2nd hand canon 1000d kit at the BnS section, should be about $800 w warranty, or a 2nd hand 400d for about $650 w/o warranty or even a 350d for $450
Use the remaining money to get a dry cabinet, extra batteries, basic tripod for a start, perhaps some basic filters such as CPL, tianya GND filter.

D40/D40X are older models and D60 is newer model, a new D60 with kit lens should be around $900-1k, some shops may give u free memory card and camera bag, then use the small change to get a dry cabinet to keep the equipment away from fungus at home.

A decent dry cab with space to grow into is slightly above $100. I've heard people say here that they buy it from CarreFour in addition to camera stores. Read the posts on how to use it (it takes time for the humidity to stabilize).

Please try a search. It's part of basic forum etiquette and mentioned in the forum rules for newbies.

 AGREE!! almost all those question u asked can be found in this forum plus..

u gotta read up more about dslr before u buy else u will be buying alot excess stuff which gotta get con by e shops

You can help yourself by doing a Google search and also a search in this forum.
For 2nd hand camera equipment, check out buy&sell section. Because frankly a budget of $1000, it only enough for you to a new entry-level dslr.

My advice, which I wished someone would tell me when I was getting into DSLR, is that there are good bargains in the Buy and Sell forum.

i don't think you can find a second hand 1000d so fast.... it was just launched a short while ago.

I recommend the Hasselblad H3DII-39MS. Confirm the pictures you take will make people go WOW.

What happened to your D∞X? :bsmilie:
