With EOS-40D, possible to do multi-flash and capture movement?

Yeah, with the 580EX. You're looking for stroboscopic mode. Set the frequency (10hz, 20hz etc), number of times it flashes (10hz, i'd put min 10 flashes) and set the power. Put the camera on a stable platform (tripod if possible) and shoot a moving subject. Using an in-camera flash, it's not possible.

cool.. thanks.. does that mean the shutter has to be very slow type.. like 1/10s, 1s, etc?
can not do high speed to capture the take off of insects?

You set up the camera on a tripod, frame the bird/insect in your viewfinder and allow space to capture a takeoff. Then with the settings of the flash in place, just shoot. If the flash fires at 10hz, you will see 10 positions of the insect if your shutter is at 1sec.
