Hola! i cannot believe this. i am so determined to take the crispiest moon shot for myself and i did it with the help of the Manual mode. Prior to this, I have always used the P and AV mode for moon shots. This has thus far been my best take.

I am in love with the manual mode already <3. shall i take a step and jump into the DSLR bandwagon? :bsmilie:

what do ya guys think? passable as a good moonshot? haha

Taken with Canon Powershot S5 IS

Shutter Speed: 1/40 sec
Aperture : F/ 8
Focal length : 72mm
ISO :100

i thought it would look nicer if its alightly brighter.

Counting the crop factor for a point and shoot, it might actually be pretty long

It is a nice take of the moon.

I have seen your shots previously and you got an eye for great compositions ( and good PP skills as well :bsmilie: ). I am sure you will do very well with a DSLR too!

Noise is still visible even at ISO 100 eh, but can't be blamed yeah? Time for a dslr man. =)

Go for DSLR, you got the skill, now you need the tool

haha yup there are slight noise evident even at ISO 100. It might be more obvious due to some sharpening too :bsmilie:

Was it a cropped shot?

Generally it is an ok shot. However, do note that for moon shots, try to shoot at a faster shutter speed. The reason being the moon is moving all the time. Any shutter slower than 1/60 might result in a less sharp pic.

I googled this before and the author did extensive research on that.

You may want to google and try and see.

Cheers!

This is true only if you're using very high magnification like shooting through a telescope.

Isisaxon is right and telescope has motor drive option for you to trace the motion.

Equatorial mount with motor drive. I dreamt of getting one when I was much younger :bsmilie:

Alt-Az with goto function is pretty good nowadays.. OK for short exposure time but field rotation will kick in for longer exposures.

hi velasco, u shot the moon with a tripod or simply just handheld?? I jus bought a canon s5.. tried shooting the moon bt couldn't get something as sharp as urs until the craters can be seen.
