How to make people laugh in front of camera ?

I am interested to shoot a happy expression of people.
I want the people to laugh naturally, not just smile, in front of camera. And I hope to achieve that without candid shot.
Is there a way or technique to achieve that ?

2 ways that works perfectly for my group or portrait shoots, instead of asking them to say cheese...lol, try this, one way is to compliment (with abit of exaggeration) ie you're born with a beautiful smile etc or second way is tell a joke, think of some jokes that is short and sweet in like with a couple of words....you don't wanna start telling a full entire joke and the next thing you know, both yourself and the people you shooting will start to get annoyed... :sweat:

Most will naturally start to pose by the count of 3. So you count up 1, 2, 2.25, 2.5, 2.75... then ooops sorry, havent switch on la! By the time they start cursing at you, snap snap snap burst mode.

Or in group, you point to one fella, comment something like "Get closer ha... too close, too far... alamak got funny smell, who arh??"
But then again, it all depends on your personality la, sometimes make joke also no one laugh... sometimes ppl one look at us they laugh already...

My fav and most effective way to get groups to laugh / say "OI". Actually, the OI part gives a very weird face.. haha..

well, i switch to burst mode and count "1...2....3..." & snap a shot at each count. They'll hear the shutter and give a 'wah lau' expression and giggle. By the time the i snap the 4th shot, they're usually reduced to lovely/goofy smiles :bsmilie:

so just be yourself, find a way suit you, build your own style.
