Melted coating???

Hi,
I was adviced to use dry clean method instead of using liquid on the filters or lens.

Wondering:
How can we simply recognize when seeing spoil coating on the filter or lens?
Do we need to turn certain angle (under bright light) to see it? or just normal position?

Pls share your opinion so I can use for my reference when want to buy 2nd hand filters or lenses.

for front element, u can look out for scratches/peeling of the coatings.

for internal element, its not as easy.

i used to ve a lens where the internal element fogged.

at the max aperture, at certain angle, u can see its not clear anymore and ve a wavy pattern.

What do you mean with "peeling off"?
one surface will have two different colors (clear glass and coating glass color) which obviously can be seen?

scratches will be thin long cuts into the coating, like running a knife/fingernail over a surface.

peeling is like peeling a bit of skin off a surface, eg an apple.

u will see that not the entire lens surface is coated. some of the coating is missing.

actually all these damages are caused by excessive cleaning. leave some dust particles alone. they wun harm the image more than improper cleaning.

i dunno. but dun tink so.

modern lens are multi coated, and the coating dun peel off easily.

so, any peeling will be most likely in little patches and chances of total/even peeling off of a layer of coating or every coating to reveal bare glass is extremely unlikely.

maybe can take a unwated lens and try. perhaps the IQ will get better. jus joking.
