RAFA: NO PROGRESS ON BARRY DEAL​

Liverpool manager Rafa Benitez has admitted there have been no further developments on a deal with Aston Villa for Gareth Barry.

The Reds have been tracking the Villa star all summer but have so far been unable to seal a deal for the midfielder, amid reports that Arsenal have stepped up their interest in him.

Benitez said: "I have had no word about Arsenal wanting Gareth Barry, and that is all I want to say on the subject. Other than that we are working towards improving our squad.

"Likewise there has been nothing more on Xabi Alonso. At the beginning of the summer we were looking at ways of raising money, but now we are happy with Xabi, he is a very good player.

"The offer we had was not good enough, so why would we want to sell him?"

If Mascherano can play on Wednesday or Saturday, Gerrad will move to the right and Babel will stay on the left. Alonso will stay in the centre with Mascherano.

can lah...its just that barry is english & left footed...with barry,the leftside will be solved...as alonso plays more central...barry also moves forward as much as gerrard...if alonso & gerrard play together...usually alonso will play deep...
