Microsoft has publicly released Photosynth, a way of combining conventional images to create 3D scenes. After you upload a set of images, the software analyzes each for similarities to the others, and then it uses this data to build a model of where the photos were taken. At the moment it is. It is not a stand alone programme though. You need to have internet access, guess all the crunching is done on the server end. You also need a MSN account.

I have recreated an account, but cannot install as my company's lappy is too old....since the minimum requirements is quite high (even compare to some computer games), I am sure the crunching is done locally and the server is where they store the finished product. They want you to use it online so that the site is worth some $...if not they have nothing to gain.

Unfortunately, we're not cool enough to run on your OS yet. We really wish we had a version of Photosynth that worked cross platform, but for now it only runs on Windows.

Trust us, as soon as we have a Mac version ready, it will be up and available on our site.
