Hi All,

I need to buy my first DSLR camera, i have short listed the following models

Budget: max S$1000
Features I want: Can take sharp image, Built-in IS, dust reduction and live view (if possible).

-Sony Alpha-200
-Olympus E-410
-Olympus E-520
-Pentax K100D Super

I have visited the shop and checked all the above models and they are ok for me, but i want to select a camera which is all rounder for any occasion :)

Please give me your feed back or suggest some other model under the same budget and features if possible. Many Thanks

i'd say all modern DSLRs are very good.

for general use, it will be almost impossible to buy one where u can seriously fault anything.

but, equipment is only one small portion of the puzzle. others include sound fundamentals, creativity, diligence, post process etc.

***when u decide to buy, pls go to a reputable camera shop, better still, get an "old bird" along.

i always associate camera salesman w durian sellers.

Agreed, it would be good if you can bring a photographer friend who is familar with shop ( better yet vice versa ) that way they won't try to pull anything on you :bsmilie: even reputable shops sometimes try funny stuff.

on side note : I saw someone storm into a camera shop in funan last week to demand a refund after he heard from the sales person @ harvey norman downstairs he was cheated. This was followed by a series of fiery negotiations ending with the shop giving him some freebies to make him "happier"

Olympus E410 no IS, only E510, E520

I'd say go for the A200. The minolta lenses are great, and the Sony system is very upgradeable.

E420 no in body IS, Pentax is 6.1MP, so I won't recommend these 2 cam...

As for Sony Alpha 200 and E520, go try it on yourself.

personal opinion is E520 has a very useful Live view with 7x and 10x zoom preview on live view, it is very very useful for fine tuning for sharp picture.

I can't comments on others system simply I don't own or use them. I just list down what I know which may be useful for you.

anyway I believe E520 will be slightly out of your 1k budget. :D

Thanks a lot for all of your valuable comments and feedback.

I know E-520 is not in my budget i think the market price is around S$1200 and A200 is around S$999, but feature wise E-520 is more attractive.

On the same side Canon 450D is having 9AF and E-520 is having 3AF and both are having almost the same price. Anyhow lets see if someone else add his/her comments here.

Regards,
Naveed

Different people have different views about dslr camera.

WOW! thats so helpful!

I'd say go for the A-200. Or just bust your budget alittle and save a little longer and get a slightly better camera. Else you might succumb to the temptation to upgrade soon, or you might regret buying the camera you bought. I saved/researched for 2 years before I chose my camera, and i think its saved me alot of grief of regretting the choice i made.
