Gretag Macbeth Huey causes serious red cast

Hi, I just got a Huey from another Clubsnapper in the B&S and tried to calibrate my LG1953 LCD monitor. After calibration, the colours all went seriously off..there was a serious red tint. I disabled Adobe Gamma and set my ATI colour management to default, but the same thing happens. Anyone has the same problem and is there any way to solve this?

Me no expert, but i found that after calibration with SEVERAL different devices, there's still a lot of fine tuning that needs to be done to match certain parameters like say, one particular printing shop's printer profile. Mabbie it was done wrong, I dunno, but in the end, it worked for me till this day.

Oh, look for a dialog box that gives you a list of options. Select the one that says 'cool'.

Hi thanks for replying. I tried that but no much diff..the cast is really serious, all my whites turned red now wondering if my monitor profile is corrupted and cannot be overwritten or something..

Don't think so cos profiles have to be created and saved.

Hopefully, some experts can come in and advise.

I tried with different monitor hardware settings and apparently it gives a more 'normal' result if my contrast is set at 100%. However, I calibrated using contrast 100% and brightness 30%, and after calibration the screen was super bright, so I had to cut brightness to 0%. Wonder if the colours would be affected.

There are 3 main panel types. TN, PVA and IPS.

LG1953 is a TN panel.
TN panels are not well known for their color accuracy.
So color calibrators won't work well on them.
I ever bought a new wide color gamut TN panel for my photo editing.
Calibrated it and was dismayed by the colors.
Promptly sold the panel off at a loss of $100 2 days later and bought myself a IPS panel.
Nv had any probs with calibration since then.
Bottom line, TN panel is good for playing games as response time is good.
Graphic or photography work, get a PVA or IPS panel.

There is nothing wrong with your monitor, it is very likely the fault of your calibrator. If you calibrate another monitor and it shows the same red cast, you will see that it isn't the monitors. Though there are different LCD panels out there in the market with varying degrees of colour accuracy, none should give you the kind of cast you get after calibration. I know what you are talking abt becos I have encountered faulty colour calibrators before.

What gktat1 says of the different panels is true, but don't forget that not all IPS panels are equal. A lot depends on the chip the controls the display's colour on screen. A rough gauge is to have a gradient of white to black or vise versa fill the screen. You can tell the accuracy of the panel by how smooth the gradient/transition is. You should do this after calibration.

Bottom line is.. see and test before you make any purchases.

Erps, the calibrator was bought from another clubsnapper and came without receipt or warranty..sure hope it's not spoilt. Will try to find another screen to test it on. Thanks.

if you plough through the threads in CS, you will find that this calibrator has a tendency to shift the color of the monitor to red. I personally have had this calibrator (got it from another clubsnapper) and have experience the same problem with my Samsung monitor but not my Viewsonic monitor.

I would say, your calibrator is ok. The red cast is a characteristic of this calibrator (being not PRO stuff) for certain monitor.

After many many tries, my monitor looks calibrated now..it's a tad warmer than before I did any calibration, but seems ok..haven't tried printing anything yet though..
