Haiz... Clubsnap so jialat? Have come to a state where users have to apologise when asking questions? Tsk.... tsk...

Anyway, I've owned both before. I used the Tamron 90mm first, then after that, decided that i wasn't interested in macro, so I sold it. A few months later, thought I'll give macro shots a try again, and I bought the Canon 100mm.

The first difference I noticed is obviously the Canon 100mm's USM. The lens focusing is fast and silent as compared to the Tamron. Good if you want to take bugs and don't want to scare them away. Haha... Focusing accuracy wise, think they're about the same.

Guess it all depends on what you're using the lens for. If you're using it to take still objects, you can probably settle for the Tamron. If you need the faster focusing, then go for the Canon.

For the record, I eventually decided I pretty much sucked at macro shots, and I sold my Canon away. :bsmilie:

as far as lens purchases to be made, buy original unless original maker don't have the focal length you need. in addition, you have a slightly resale value with original lens compared to third party.

newbie here mah hehehehe, not jialet just courtesy.....li dou ren bu guai.....hehehee

anyway thks for replying thengz and jfoo....

ok so if i dun really use the AF n using on the MF when taking the insect liked mosqitoes, 90mm should be the one?

i am mostly not going to sell the lens away as i really love macro taking.....
been trying to take it with my normal PnS for a yr or 2 with 01 china branded dcam and a panasonic fx12 n till i got my 1st 300D....
result from the kit lens = i am happy with it compared to my PnS but till i tried to take a mosqitoes and ant i cant.....

so now because of $$$ got to refrain from spending too much coz haven got a stand n dry cab.....thats y confused...

either i get a good lens to use for long term, time being uses dry box (more hardworking hahaha) and a cheapo 60+ stand or
a 90mm den get a dry cab 30L and a 120+ stand from penisula....

I've a deal on the buy & sell section for the canon 100mm.
The reason i chose it over the tamron 90mm is due to the USM and the most important Internal Focusing.
The tamron extends ALOT on focusing and if u r interested in moving insects like ants etc.
Choose the Canon, as the focusing wont scared ur subject away

for image quality both are neck to neck.
Canon has USM
Tamron will extend out during focusing.
Tamron is cheaper
Anyway for macro, I use mostly MF so the USM doesn't really matters.
And I think both lens are too short to be shooting mozzie.

okok....noted.....now just decide on it only....ok.....clearer picture now......thks everyone....thks thks.....
